Default SXRD 50" A2000 dying, options?

My A2000 is dying. The picture keeps cutting out. I've troubleshot everything so that's not what this thread is for. This thread is for the fact that I'm going to need a replacement but best buy doesn't sell the TV anymore.

I bought the TV for 2000.00 back 2 years ago so that's the amount I'm going to have to work with. I'd rather not go down in size but if I have to 46 is the lowest. Checking bestbuy's website I see these:

Samsung - 61" 1080p Slim-Depth DLP HDTV
Model: HL61A650
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1202649424961

Samsung - 61" 1080p Slim-Depth LED Engine DLP HDTV
Model: HL61A750
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1202649424894

Mitsubishi - 65" 1080p DLP HDTV - Black/Silver
Model: WD-65735
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1205538040691

Mitsubishi - Diamond 65" 1080p DLP HDTV
Model: WD-65833

Samsung - 46" 1080p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV
Model: LN46A580

Samsung - 46" 1080p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV

I play a lot of videogames so I'm not really considering a plasma

You sure its not just the lamp that needs replacing? I just replaced my lamp after owning the TV for about 20 months. You should look into it, it is a great tv.

If you can cough up an extra $200 or so you can have a better tv such as this one: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1215216782035

If it's not the lamp, then I'd look at the Samsung's. My neighbor bought the LN32A550 and the LN46A550. I got the professional calibration settings off AVS and set them up. All I could say is wow. They look so good, it makes me want to throw, not toss, throw my TV out the window so I could get one. Yeah, they look that good. I'm sure there's better, but for the price, wow.

One more thing. Look at this TV and this TV. They're the same TV right? But not the same price. Go to BB and show them the CC price. They have to price match it and give you a 10% discount. That's how my neighbor did.

Agreed, if you were happy with the A2000, the new Samsung rear projectors are the most similar in both technology and resulting image. I've read one excellent review of the LED backlit models, the A750 line. You could even increase in size if you're interested, there's a 67" model now.

I'm sure that the Mitsus are also very good, with a calibration, perhaps as good as the Samsung.

Or you may be able to locate a Sony A3000 on ebay.

Go projector! JVC and Sony have good LCD based ones.

+1 You have to play those 2 against each other, i always do, even on blu-ray movies that i don't want to wait on amazon to deliver.

CAB I am 100% positive Sony doesn't make Rear Projector TV's any more. You would have to buy one used.

The first and last one seems to be pretty good, but the problem is that they are pricey.

why don't you check out the wal mart site, you could find the same models cheaper, or even better check out Costco, that way you could save up money.

Too bad you're not here... My best buy has a floor model 60" sxrd maked down to $1374.

All the Sxrd RP models are dis-continued so if they have any left maybe you can go up a size.

(I would just be very careful about if the screen got damaged in the store. I think I would take a flash light with new batteries and trace all over the screen with the set off to look for any damage.)

I have an extended warranty with best buy so the TV has to be from there. They will give the purchase price of the TV and I will pick a new TV from them from there.

Sorry, mate - I shoulda been more specific. Non-rear projection. :-) they still make SXRDs that shoot out the front onto a screen. JVC does the same just with different video processing engines.

If you have a lot of patience, then wait for a bigger OLED HDTV sometime in the future. Here's a sample of the very first one: http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/...52921665327724

This tv is small but its incredible. Excellent for traveling and compatible with the PS3 or any HDMI device.

If it were me, I would be on the phone with Sony! You paid 2000.00 for it. It's a 2 year old set for crying out loud! No tv should be crapping out after 2 years of use! I wouldn't just shrug my shoulders and say "oh well, time for a new one!"
