Default Got it narrowed down to a few tvs, what do you think?

Ok so i use this as my TV and my computer monitor, i want 40" cause if its any bigger its gonna drive me mad as a computer monitor, ill adjust my movie seating to be the appropiate distance. Now unless im mistaken it is going to be a waste for me to get the 120Hz models because the video card in my computer only does 1920x1080 at 85hz max so getting the 120hz tv would be useless correct?

Samsung LN40A550 $1159 on sale
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Samsu...oductDetail.do

Sony KDL-40S4100 $1199
http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...40S4100&tp=161

And i saw the
Samsung LNT4069F $1199 (120hz) on sale
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Samsu...oductDetail.do

but as i questioned before should i even bother with a 120hz tv because my video card cant even do that? (EVGA 8800GT) and the video card i want to get (EVGA GTX260) doesnt even seem to be able to do it even

if you had any others i should consider let me know, i want to keep it under $1200 (unless i get something amazing for not much more) and 40" LCD 1080p thanks for taking the time to read this

go with the Samsung LN40A550.. you dont need 120 if you are ONLY using as monitor and the response time is 5ms on this and 8ms on the others but if ever you are planning on going to use as tv go with 4069f if not get the A550

yeah it wont ever be a stand alone tv, i have far to much invested into my computer lol.

Any particular reason on the samsung over the sony? i like both brands personally but it seems like sony seems to have the stereotype of being the king of tvs (at least in my area)

From what I've heard and experienced, Samsung tends to put out a higher quantity of defective models. Plus, their support isn't that great either (I know this from experience). I had to make phone calls over a period of two months in order to get them to replace the TV. I'd get the Sony instead.

I wouldn't get the Sony right now. Their V/W/Z lineups this year all have a 'white sparkle' issue, which you can read about at AVS. I initially purchased the KDL46W4100 and noticed the white sparlkes. It may not bother some, but it was enough to bother me especially since I watch a lot of darker movies. I exchanged mine this weekend for a Samsung LNa750, and I couldn't be happier.

Definitely the LN40A550. I returned a Bravia 40V4100 for it, i'm glad i did. The Sony 4100 suffers from a sparkle problem.

After some careful reading and research the video card im gonna get for my computer for this will be a 9800GX2 it has onboard version 1.3a HDMI so i can pass through the new sound formats to a good reciever, its the only one ive seen that is a gamming card that has HDMI on it (and the latest version at that)

Does the S4100 have the sparkle problem? also doesnt sony measure the static contrast ratio where as the samsung is measured by dynamic contrast ratio? the only reason i hesitate on the samsung is that i read some people have issues with the pc input on it and the sony seems more readily availible and cheaper in my area, and i have had sony tvs almost my whole life lol

oh and i sit arms length away from it most of the time should i stick with a 40" im worried the 46 would be to big sitting that close?

and oh #2 what do u guys think about extended warrantys on these tvs? my friend got one on his dlp for bulb replacement but should i bother on an LCD? i will probably only have it for 3yrs anyways

If that Samsung is one of the LED models, I would definitely put it on the top of the list.

It has gotten excellent reviews.

http://hdguru.com/hd-guru-exclusive-...cd-102907/201/

It's 60Hz and performs better than any 120Hz model.

Myself I am a Sony person. I have owned Samsungs, and have just always held preference to the Sonys. That said, The LED TV is really nice. The price here is about 1000 dollars less than what it was at this time last year...

http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-LNT408...0683095&sr=8-1

I would go in store and compare all three. I would lean towards the Samsung 4081 myself, even being a Sony fan....

So im thinking its between the sony and samsung cause the LED one is a bit more then i want to spend and i cant see it in person which is important to me

http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Samsu...oductDetail.do

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-19qQEgY...40S4100&tp=161

they seem to be pretty comparable, has the sparkle issue been resolved in the sonys yet? i heard that it had, also was it just the LN40A530 that had issues with the PC input, or does the 550 have that issue as well because this will be primarily a computer monitor?

i own 2 sammy's and would never recommend a sony over a samsung. even at the high end level of tv's sammy's give you the best bang for your dollar.
