Question Blu-Ray Languages

Hello everybody,

i'm writing from Italy and i have a question for you all.
Due to the too high prices of the blu-ray movies over here, i thought to buy them over there in the States, but i saw that they doesn't support italian language. English, French, Spanish, German, Korean, Japanese, Serbian, etc etc, but never italian.
Why? What's te reason? May somebody help me and tell me the reason please?

Thank you very much

Usually the US Discs support English, Spanish and French. There are some Warner Discs with other Languages such as German, Japanese...etc. But this isn't the rule.

As to your question why there is never Italian included.... I honestly can't say but maybe that's a too small market?!

I would say that ultimately this is up to the studios.
Might be a way of them preventing people importing too many titles from abroad!?
Or the market is just not big enough!?

Most US releases only have English, Spanish and French audio tracks or subtitle features.
This is due the high number of people speaking those languages here.

I was born and raised in Germany and grew up watching all movies or tv shows that were not made in Germany, dubbed. This is just the way it was and still is over there. Back then I didn't mind, because I did not know any different.

Now I have been living in the States for almost 8 years and am so used to the original soundtrack, that when I was back in Germany visiting family, we tried to watch a movie on tv which was dubbed in german... and I couldn't take it at all! Nowadays I always try to get it in original language with either english or german subtitles if needed.

But trust me you're not alone with this. I have imported a bunch of German made movies that I really like and wanted to share those with my wife, but more than 80% are lacking either english audio or subtitles.
Time to send her off to school to learn proper german! hahahah

Italy has a long history of dubbing movies from English to Italian and from Italian to English. For example, if you check this site, you will notice that many American movies are available in Italian language.

Maybe that is the reason Hollywood studios feel that they do not need Italian subtitles. Also remember that in most of Sergio Leone’s movies in the 1960s, Sergio himself and some of the actors did not speak English and some of the actors could speak Italian.

You're right, I never see Italian on the list of languages.
