Default BD-Rom?

Curious about this:

When does everyone think BD-Rom will enter the market, and how long will it take to usurp CD/DVD-Rom?

I know some computers are being made with BD drives, but I'd say the number of non-custom models with the BD drive is less than 1 in 10 at this point. So, I assume BD has to gain momentum some, but I think its only a matter of time til the higher capacities of BDs take over in the computer world too.

It already is gaining momentum. Many of the higher-end store models come with BD drives now.

I just bought a new Sony Vaio - came with a blu-multi drive. In fact 3 of the 4 vaio's offered have the blu-multi drive included. Now if the price of the BD-Roms would just come down... they are still really expensive like when DVD-Roms came out. A single BD-R 50gb DL is about $50 still - and thats a write once disc - but I have seen them as low as $13.99 each if you buy 25 or more. blank printable BD-R and they are inkjet printable!!

The unit I got:
Model Number: VGC-LT38E VAIOŽ LT Series PC/TV All-in-One
IntelŽ Core™2 Duo Processor T8300 (2.40 GHz, 3MB L2 Cache)
Genuine Windows VistaŽ Home Premium

Series Features: 22" widescreen display, wall-mountable, NVIDIAŽ graphics, read/write Blu-ray Disc™/DVD & CD content, wireless keyboard and mouse
1TB (500GBx2, 7200rpm) HDD
Internal NTSC / ATSC TV tuner

Its a beast.

If you're talking the discs for applications (drives have been on the market from the beginning), stuff still commonly comes on CD-ROM. Unless we get to the point people are installing things that take over 15GB, I doubt BD-ROM will happen.

I think you'll start seeing BD-ROM offered along with DVD-ROM media within a couple years on certain pro apps. For example, Adobe CS3 master collection is up to like 6 DVD-ROM discs (including content discs). By the time CS4 comes out (given the target market of the programs), it would make sense to pack in a BD-ROM that contains all the same install files (and content) to make life a bit easier on users that have the drives. Also, at $2500 for the software, its not like the cost of including the BD-ROM disc is really going to kill their margins. Other pro audio and video apps come on a number of DVD-ROM discs and could benefit similarly.

But, yeah, for games and most consumer apps, what would be the point of moving to BD-ROM media? Given that the vast majority of DVD-ROM titles aren't even on dual layer DVDs yet, we're nowhere near needing BD-ROM.
