Default polk audio vs klipsh

Ok first of I am very new to this home audio stuff I was at bestbuy looking at speakers and wires and banana plugs and i asked the guy the difference between the speaker wire he said go with 16 gauge on the polk bookshelf speakers same with the klipsch. second are these brands any good and does the wire really make a difference the generic to say monster or another brand for speakers altogether. and im looking at getting the onky 606 or 705?

In my opinion the most important thing about spkr wire is the gauge. Bigger is better especially if you have long runs in a large room so any spkr wire will do as long as the gauge is large enough. For a typical spkr wire run of 20' to 25' for rears #16 is ok. As for the speakers they're both decent not too expensive spkrs. I'd look at no and size of horns ... low, mid, high...6"' 4" etc. Again the spkr size depends on the size of your room and has to jive with amp power.

I am running 14Ga with my Klipsch.

Check Monoprice.com for cable. I just ordered 300ft of 14GA.

http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

If they are both oxygen free I'd guess the only difference is price.

If the gauge is the same then not really. They just make way more on monster cable actually if you read other posts you'll find that any monster cable is no better than any other decent cable.

With gauges the smaller # is actually the bigger wire so #14 is bigger wire than #16 so #14 is better (less resistance)

For once, yes the monster cable is actually better than the dynex. That being said, there is better quality and better priced cable than monster cable. For analog cables, I am, along with most other people who enjoy audio, a firm believer that quality is important. I use audioquest cable www.audioquest.com, but for your purposes, I think monoprice or blue jeans cable would probably be just fine. The rule of thumb I've heard and believe in is that the interconnects/cable should be roughly 10% the price of the home theater system.
