Default Bennigans pub... bankrupt! gone!

mannnnnnnn...

Where else am I gonna get a deep fried sandwich ala 'The Monte Cristo'?! A bit dramatic I know, but I really did like that place. The one near me did gangbusters business too. That place was always packed.

Yeah the shutdown was nationwide. Too much competition from TGIF, etc, slow economy, who knows.. I'm gonna miss that artery clogging sandwich is all I know =P

Thats where my friends and I always went for St Pattys day too. It was a good joint.

I guess the rumor is that any Bennigans that are 'independently' owned are still open. But there aren't a lot of those and none in my area as far as I know.

bennigans has been closed here in the phoenix area for at least a year. I think it is more like 2 years. The building is still there and so are the signs on the outside.

Bennigans and Steak & Ale are owned by the same parent company... Metromedia. ( I think I got the name right....it's been a looong time since I waited tables.) But they filed for Chapter 7 and are liquidating everything. It really is a shame as they are both great restaurants...and I have always been a fan of Steak & Ale.

This is true.

The Michigan area Bennigan's and Steak & Ale restaurants will remain open because they are independently owned.

The ones near me have closed down. I have a relative that was very upset Bennigans closed down as it was their favorite watering hole. I myself hadn't stepped inside one in several years as their food was horrible and the service was frequently poor.

I'll have to drive by our Bennigans and check them out. Hopefully Steak and Ale is okay, I love going there every so often.

http://www.bennigans.com/

Heres an article on this story
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/5913146.html
Quote:
The majority of Bennigan's restaurants in the Austin area will remain in business despite the fact that the chain's corporate owner has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
Bennigan's and Steak & Ale's parent company, Plano-based Metromedia Restaurant Group, confirmed Tuesday that its subsidiary operating those chains filed for bankruptcy and would close all corporate-owned locations. Two Bennigan's restaurants in Austin at 301 Barton Springs Road and 7604 N. I-35 are now closed.
But restaurants operated by franchisees are not affected by the bankruptcy. In Central Texas, franchisee Hammoud Inc. owns four Bennigan's at 13995 Research Blvd., 12415 N. I-35, 2500 Hoppe Trail in Round Rock and 4025 S. I-35 in San Marcos.
"We are deeply saddened by what has transpired at Metromedia Restaurant Group," says Patty Adams, marketing director for Hammoud. "However, our four Bennigan's restaurants, which are franchise locations, will continue to be open for business."
A spokeswoman for Metromedia says the bankruptcy filing relates specifically to its subsidiary S&A Restaurant Corp., the parent company of Steak & Ale and Bennigan's Grill & Tavern restaurants. Ponderosa and Bonanza, which operate under the company's MetroMedia Steakhouses Co. subsidiary, are excluded from the bankruptcy filing, she says.
