Default STRDG720 or STRDG910

Which of these receivers are better? Does the 720 have 1.3HDMI? I just bought the 720 for $249.99 but have not opened it yet. While I was in the store I saw an open box STRDG910 for $185. Which one would be a better buy? I am upgrading to use the new formats from my PS3. They will be connected to the RM6750's.

That would depend on whether the 910 passes LPCM or not. I could not find anything that says it does. And many of last years DG models do not. Therefore I would say, if those are your only options then I would keep the 720 because it will let you pass the lossless audios by decoding in your PS3, and sending via LPCM(multi-channel) to your receiver. If you want to spend little more, you can go to techdepot.com and find the 920 just below $400 and the 820 below $300. I think that amazon had an Onkyo 606 for about $330. All three can handle LPCM, and decode the new codecs.

I have the 710, last years model, and it works good, so I would expect the same from the 720, but it would be better if the 710 handled LPCM, which is why I am trading up to the 920.

I believe the 910 does handle LPCM. I tried to see what the differences are but couldn't determine much. The 910 does have an OSD per the sony site. I am also warry about buying an open box item. Would like to have a pro give me some heads up as I am new to all this.

Well I'm no pro, but I know a thing or two about audio equipment. Sony has never had a great reputation for audio equipment. They are great with other electronics like tv's, cameras, etc. I also know that the new line of recievers they have out bench test very poorly. I would not consider any sony recievers outside of the ES line, but those are rather pricey.

You will find not many people here like the sony receivers not in the ES line, but if you do then do what makes you comfortable. Everyone here who has the new sony's (820 & 920) likes them a lot, also you can check crutchfield.com for the 910 they are still selling new at a discount $399. I try to avoid open boxes, don't trust them at all. Techdepot has the 920 for $393, but its not in stock at the moment. The Onkyo 606 will be just as good too.

I double checked the LPCM and it does process it for sure. Just read the owners manual.

Where did you find bench tests on the new line of Sony receivers?

I know Crakinheadz has recommended the 720 as a entry level receiver. Based on his input as well as others is why I went for the 720. I just don't know if the 910 is better, or worth the open box chance.

Depending on the decoding capability of your bluray player and your lossless goals, just wanted to add, since you are paying $250 for the 720 which can not decode DTS HD MA nor DolbyTrue HD, you might wanna consider the brand new 820 which is selling for only $277 at Tech Depot [online direct brother of Office depot]

I finally got the 720 hooked and set up last night. It sounds amazing! Of course I was upgrading from an Panny HTIB with wireless rear speakers. The True HD sounds great there is definitly a difference. OTA braodcasts sound great from the optical from my TV. I just wanted to thank everyone on the board who takes the time to create stickys (where most of my questions were answered) and answer posts. Setting up the 720 was easy you just need to take your time and read before you jump in.

Since I read about passing audio with LPCM does the Denon AVR 1909 with my PS3?
