Default I need a player for both reigons 1&2

Hi everyone, I registered here a long time ago when I first found out about Blu-Ray and I got some wonderful advice, unfortunately at the time, there weren't any players that convinced me they were worth buying. But now, I heard a lot of great reviews about the Panasonic DMP-BD30k player and I went to a store to buy it and the salesman told me that the player can only play one reigon. That is a problem for me because I have bought disks from both reigons 1&2 and I need one player that would play all of them.
The salesman told me that a new panasonic player will be available in a couple of months that would be able to play all reigons but to be honest, I don't want to wait that long I'm so excited about Blu-ray that I'm buying the disks now before owning the player lol.

So I want to ask everyone here if there are ways to make the player play all the disks. I'm an idiot when it comes to these things but I keep reading about ppl saying they download updates from websites and install them to their players so I was wondering if there was something like that for this player.

If not, then is there a better player that can play both reigons?

I would really appreciate the help and thanks in advance.

Hi JiJi,
I have a panasonic BD30 player that I got from the Us earlier this year, and I too bought blu ray titles before getting the player, I live in Ireland, and get all my blu ray titles from Amazon, the updates that can be downloaded for the BD30 is only so all titles can play on the player, there is not an update to make the player multi region, I know the new Panasonic player the BD50 is out,but I am not sure as yet if it plays Region B titles, you should look it up on line and check the specs to see if it is multi region. Long live Blu ray, and I hope this helps.

Thank you so much for your reply. I just checked amazon and the reviews for the BD50 model aren't good regardless if it plays both reigons or not.
I guess I should just wait until a good model is released that is able to play different reigons

Just a follow on from my last thread, you know the blu regions are A, B, and C, the dvd regions are 1 to 6, you would have to check to see what blu ray players will play dvd region 1 and 2.

Oh, I had no idea the blu ray regions were different than DVDs, thanks for bringing that to my attention. I'm checking the amazon listing right now and it doesn't say anything about A, B or anything about the DVD regions it plays.

Here's the link: http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-DMP-...6724750&sr=8-1

oh btw, sorry for all the questions, but does your blu ray play region 1&2 dvds? if it does then I'll just order the player from amazon and get all my disks from there as well.

No problem, glad to help a fellow blu ray fan out, the US blu ray movies are Region A, thats the new titles, it does say it on amazon.com, or check the titles out on this site here and it tells you what region they are, my panasonic player plays and upscales region 1 dvds, it does not play region 2 dvds, I have the new Philips 5980 dvd player which plays region 1 and 2 dvds and is a good upscaler as well. I have a web address if you want to talk more.

Thank you so much for your help. I've made my decision and I'm going to buy the panasonic player from Amazon since most of my DVDs are region 1 and I'll get a PS3 from here to play any Blu Ray disks I get from here plus all my region 2 DVDs. I didn't want to get the PS3 at first because I'm not into video games anymore so I thought it would just be better to get a stand alone player but I think this is the best way to go for now and I'll wait a year or two before I get a new player and hopefully by then the players would have improved dramatically and would be region free.

According to the Owner's Manual I have for my DMP-BD 30 it only plays under BD-Video "marked with labels containing the region code A" and for DVD-Video "marked with labels containing the region number 1 or ALL."

So all my old Region 2 DVD's from Japan will NOT play on this machine.

Default need a player for both regions 1 & 2

There are multi blu-ray region players that will play all regions but they cost anywhere from $4,000 to at least $7,000. I don't think that it's worth the price to pay for this since blu-ray is really just new on the market and since you really don't know the specs are and the features included on the player.

Try this site for multi-region BD players:

You should have just bought 2 PS3's like me. Firmware is updated more frequently and the PS3 has more power under the bonnet to deal with loading times and BD-J (Javascript). Not to mention its wireless and has a more intuitive interface, on top of that it plays games, photos, music and all sorts. You can even chat to fellow friends that own PS3's on eyetoy.

You will find out that PS3 is the best BD player overall when you get one.

Enjoy.

The LG BH200 Dual Format Player can easily be hacked to play different regions, as well as Pal.
