Default Question about 1080p on PowerDVD and WinDVD..

I own both, and for some reason.. WinDVD9 has better picture quality than PowerDVD8. It's almost like a difference between 720p and 1080p. I have my monitor on 1920x1200 resolution. I know 1080p is 1920x1080, so is it recommended to use that for better Blu-ray picture on PC? I think these programs use the resolutions for you, so I never change it. Can anyone confirm this?

It should just come down to the post-processing applied by the different programs. Most people think that programs and playera just read the data off the disc, and transfer the digital information to the TV or monitor. It's more complicated than that, and there's color space conversions, 3:2 pulldown conversion, and post-processing applied to the decoded video. The output of one player or software package isn't identical to another. If WinDVD 9 looks consistently better to you, then I'd stick with that.

But, yeah, both are adjusting the resolution to you match your monitor, though it likely isn't 1:1 pixel mapping as they want a bit of overscan.

Try changing the resolution of your graphics card to 1080 x 1920 and compare the two products again. See if that makes a difference. Also, make sure that the monitor isn't in the FULL mode or else it will alter the picture to fill the 1200 X 1920 window. My Dell monitor has three modes, 1:1, Aspect Ratio and Full. I usually leave it set on Aspect Ratio, but 1:1 will work just as well when viewing a Blu-Ray movie.
