Default Question on moving a 42" Sony HDTV? Help!

I couldn't find anything when I tried to search although admittedly I didn't do a very extensive search. But I hope someone can help me with this.

I'm going to be moving from Florida to Texas in a month and half. I currently own my first 42" HD rear projection TV. It's a Sony KDF-E42A10. I only have two compact cars and don't own a truck or an SUV so I'm going to have to put it in the U-Haul with the rest of my crap.

Here are my questions. (Obviously I don't have the original box that it came in.)

1. What will be the best way to secure this sucker while transporting it? (A buttload of bubble wrap?)

2. It has the plastic screen in the front so how should I go about protecting that without scratching it (or worse denting/puncturing it).

3. Have any of you ever had to move one of these babies, and if so, how did you do it?

4. Is is true that if it falls over or lays on its side it can severely mess up the light sources/convergence and therefore mess up the PQ?

5. Also, in the U-Haul, should I set on one of the sofas or set it on cushions? Again, I'm at a loss.

Any help or advice you could give would be greatly appreciated.

I moved from CA to VA and then again from VA to MA. I had a 42 in toshiba rear proj. at the time. What I did was put a blanket over the tv to cover the screen then pushed the screen flush with the front of the truck wall, closest to the cab. I then encased it with my sofa and other large furniture to insured that it would not move. So the back of the tv faced outward and the face was protected. Hoped this helped.

Ok you'll need 2 bungie straps and skateboard. Put the TV on the skate board, tie it down with the first bungie cord. Than hook up the skate board to the Uhaul. Viola, problem solved!!! You can than watch your tv every step of the way to make sure no damage is done to it!

Just make sure you slow down big time at stop lights.

I would even go a step further... purchase a sheet of plywood (which you may have to cut for size.

Place the TV in the truck first so that it is closest to the driver cabin. Then cover it with a couple of blankets. Then, place the plywood on the side where the screen is. This will ensure some extra protection from the screen being damages. Then tie it down VERY TIGHTLY. Follow-up by placing plenty of larger "less likely to tip over" boxes/furniture.

Voila... Bon Voyage!!!

what we do at my work for display model TVs is plastic wrap the hell out of them (so they dont get scratched) and then put a large sheet of cardboard over the screen/bezel, then plastic wrap it some more... and like people above said.... put it against the front wall of the u-haul

Thanks guys for all the suggestions (minus the skateboard idiot, although I might try something like that once I upgrade). That's all good advice and I think I know what I'll do. Thanks again.
