I am in the market for a 120Hz LCD. Does anyone have any personal experience with the (KDL-52W5150) "W" series Sony Bravia 120Hz lcd hdtv's? That is the model I am leaning toward. Thanks in advance for any input.

I bought my KDL-52V5100 last August for $1299.00 which for the money was an excellent buy. I am well pleased with its performance. The black levels rival those on my Panasonic 720p plasma TV. However, my Bravia does circles around my plasma TV's white levels. My Bravia has just as good dynamic range in contrast as my plasma TV. I would expect the 52W to be bit better. One thing I do know is that the W series has more features and is easier to calibrate. However, once I got mine calibrated, the PQ is breathtaking and outstanding.
I realize that the V series is a notch down from the W. However, that's my point. Being so impressed by Sony's entry level 120 HZ LCD, I'd say go for it especially if you can get it at a good pricel. With LEDs and 240 HZ becoming popular, you may find a good price on one for around $1500 -$1600. I would definitely turn a cold shoulder if you can't find one for under $2000. You might as well get an LED TV in that price range. One thing I love about Sony Bravia is that it can display true 24p. If you decide on the 52W here's a tip. Don't turn on motion flow while watching 24p movies on Blu-ray. You won't need it or gain anything by it. Sony's motion flow technology is flawed and spoils an otherwise excellent picture. |

Best Buy has the 55" V series for $1700 this week. I am trying to wait until close to the Superbowl for a good sale. They are closing out a few TVs for the newer models too. I am bound to get a good deal. I see several online deals, but I am not to thrilled about getting an lcd tv online. I'd rather transport it myself.

I personally can vouch for the Sony V series. I owned the 46V4100 and it was an excellent all around tv and then I stepped up to the 46V5100 with 120hz and have been happy with it since I bought it last November. No it dont have some of the features of the W series but I wasnt into the Internet Widgets and so fourth so I settled on the 46V5100 and been very happy with it. Check out the V5100 Sony HDTV's. For the price and PQ I think you would be very happy with it.

I have a 52 W Series Sony TV. It cost me $1,300 eight months ago at a Sony Outledt (Brand new no refurbished). The best deal I could ever had. Go for it, excellent picture and great blacks. You wont be disappointed.

I have a 52 inch W series and it's got a breath taking picture. Black levels are good and deep, and the only gripe I have is a problem inherent to all LCD TVs (there's some clouding when watching in the dark). If you intend to watch a lot of TV in the dark, you might be better off going with a plasma. Otherwise, if you intend to watch it in a decently lit room, I can highly recommend the W series.

As far as price goes I would push a little harder with the sales person to get the "W" to near the price you want. I work in this game so if you give me a reasonable price for it and you want to take it today you will normally get what you want.

Well guys, I went to hhgregg today with 2 grand to spend, and when I went in to talk to my guy, I found out all the "52 Sonys were gone! Man, what a drag! Just when I was about to admit defeat, he said, "I have a great deal for you!" I was heading toward the door to go to Best Buy, but I decided to hear what he had to offer. He had the 55" Samsung (LN55B650) on sale for $1,799.97 which is not bad for a 55" 120hz lcd with a TOC bezel and internet capabilities. I was still not ready to bite the hook yet, so he talked to the manager, and came back and said "How about the 55" lcd, a Samsung bdp1600 blu-ray player for $1,797.54 tax and all included." I ran with it and all I can say is "WOW!"

I almost bought the 52Z5100 from BB back in Dec they had a deal for the 52Z5100 and a free PS3, game and Blu-Ray for $1599.00... Yes the Z series.
So just wait their are deals to be had out there. Amazon had a similar deal as well to try and match BB's deal. |

my model is the 52WL135 from Costco bought back in May of 2008--
does anybody have this model and if so what are your settings? I would like to try some of the calibrations that I've seen on this site but I'm sure the settings are best only for the particular model-- I also hate motion blur and I've turned off all the dnr filters and motion enhancer options. Does anybody know about the Cinemotion feature? should it stay on or off? thanks!! |
