Default What are these lines?

I have noticed this on both the PS3 and the 360 on certain games. I can see a shimmery line that seems to stay alittle in front of characters when you move forward. I see it on NCAA 2009 on PS3 and Gears of War on xbox 360. For example in NCAA when you lineup for a play you don't see it but as soon as the play begins and you start moving around you can see it on the field. It is really noticeable on kickoff returns. Same with gears of war, while advancing forward with your character you can notice the shimmery line on the ground moving as you move. I believe I have seen the technical term for this before but can't remember, anyone know or even know what the hell i'm talking about?

Sounds like screen tearing to me. Some games have it, some games don't.

It's not tearing. I actually had someone on AVS answer it for me, something to do with mip mapping. Not sure why some games have it and others don't. You can see it easily, just look at the ground graphics while playing and every so often you will see it.
