$1000 dollar budget

I have a1000 budget and was wondering if I could piece together a setup better than the Bose system I saw at circuit city today I need a reciver and am looking 5.1 w/o a seperate amplifier sorry I did search

Throw more money to the receiver, front 3 speakers (try to match them as much as possible) and a subwoofer. Don’t concern yourself too much with the surrounds.

Just about anything you piece together would be a better use of your $1000 than piddling it on a Bose HTiB.

I have a set up of Athena speakers (5 speakers and sub set can be purchased from Audio Advisor for about $650) and an Onkyo 605 (which you can pick up for about $350) and I am very happy with it.
