Here I am, watching NBC for one of the marquee events of the Olympics, and I can't even see it!! Instead they're showing a group basketball match.
So I go to NBCOlympics.com and find out it's already been run. WTH?? Utter cr*p! |

Yeah, for whatever reason they didn't show it.

I just can't understand the stupidity of the programming at NBC. It's not like the 100m race would have taken longer than 5min to cover (including pre and post race). If they couldn't break into the basketball, at least show it on one of the other channels. I think UniversalHD, MSNBC and Telemundo were all showing the SAME soccer match, at the SAME time.

I have no idea what the hell NBC was thinking when they decided that only the East Coast would get to see the olympics live. Waiting three hours is absolutely ridiculous. |

they showed it in canada
and from what i hear in other countries as well... i havent been a fan of the coverage though of this olympics... i usually like seeing all the countries compete in (almost all) the events but this year it seems to have been very selective :/ and they'll go to commercial or commentary when its not canada/china/usa "up at bat" |

and it should be shown...since it determines the fastest man on Earth... I understand it's difficult to show every sport, and every match, etc. (I dream of the day when all sports (matches, routines, rotations, etc.) at the Olympics are shown live, on however many channels are required, and you get to pick which one to watch...not what NBC or whatever channel decides you should watch.) And I understand NBC wanting to show US athletes. But when a headline event like the 100m is on, it should be live, whether you have a participant or not. Since there are only 8 finalists, does that mean the other 200 countries or so have no interest? (The US did have a finalist, Dix.) Why was a group basketball match deemed more important, or a soccer match shown simultaneously on 3 channels? Last edited by Jock Blu; 08-16-2008 at 11:00 PM. |

What they need is an Olympic Channel or one station that isn't going to show regular shows/ soap operas but instead to show Olympic Coverage Live, 24.7 during the whole Olympic run instead of the crap that NBC and for me Universal HD did with this Olympic coverage, especially being on the west coast and not having anything live, that is so lame I get to hear everything from my friends on the east coast before even watching anything.

You have got to be kidding?!!!
I notice that NBC News started off tonight with several "king making" stories on Phelps. Gary Last edited by dialog_gvf; 08-17-2008 at 01:17 AM. |

I don't think I've ever been happy with NBC's coverage of the Olympics. Even with cable they need more channels to cover it than the current crop (USA, CNBC, MSNBC, etc.) shows. If they didn't have Bob Costas their coverage would be a disaster for the most part.

Because realistically there was not much chance of an American winner.
Fair enough, I can understand an American TV channel wanting to show American competitors as much as possible, but to not show the 100m final was outrageous. |

The 100m was run Saturday 10:30am Eastern time. It wasn't shown live. Note that it was nighttime in Beijing when it was run.

Now what if the American, Dix, had caused an upset (unlikely, yes, but that's part of the reason for watching sports live, right?) and won the gold medal? One of the great moments and it wouldn't have been live. NBC would have had egg on their faces. And though they tout the number of channels showing the Olympics, 3 of them were showing the same soccer match at that time!! And it didn't involve the US! My wife and I thought that maybe they were tape-delaying for prime time...but they don't even show it until around 11:30pm. Unbelievable. |

NBC Olympics coverage is pathetic. US Network Olympic coverage is always terriible. Hopefully lots of Americans can get access to CBC from Canada - they always have the best coverage. Just because a Canadian isn't in contention in a particular event doesn't mean that it get left out.
