Default How is DTS HD shown on the PS3?

I was watching Burn After Reading and had the DTS HD option selected and my PS3 to PCM output, but when I hit select to see the settings it just said "DTS Multichannel Audio 1.5mbs," is this correct?

It appears that that it is displaying the core DTS Digital at 1.5. How did you connect your PS3 to the receiver?

When you press Display on the PS3 remote, it should tell you that you are using DTS HD and should also display variable bit rate that changes.

It's hooked up through HDMI to my Onkyo 605...I've never had this issue before. I had my Onkyo set to Direct.

What do you mean that you did not have this issue before? Do you mean that PS3 displayed DTS-HD and the receiver displayed multi-channel in? Does it display Dolby TrueHD correctly?

Is your PS3 updated with the most recent firmware updates? Are all the settings inside the player's menu correct?

When you get your DTS MA and True HD working it shows up as PCM because the PS3 can not bitstream the information.

Yep. You've gotta change your HDMI audio output to BITSTREAM...not PCM. It'll give you a rather daunting warning message. Ignore it and you're good. It might say just DTS, but it will output to your receiver properly.

This isn't correct. The PS3 won't bitstream the DTS HD (only the 2.1) you have set the PS3 as PCM so it'll decode the DTS HD track.

I got it to work properly. It had to do with my receiver I had it on some weird setting I don't even know what.

If you want HD audio, you don't want to set to bitsream, as the ps3 cannot bitstream the hd audio formats.

This topic goes round and round

Fact PS3 can not a will probably never be able to bitstream HD audio in any configuration. Your amp will always say something like Multi In when the PS3 is set to PCM even if its playing DTS HD, Dolby True HD ect

You are bitstreaming the lossy DTS core. Your settings are incorrect. With your equipment you should have the PS3 send the decoded DTS-HD MA tracks as PCM to your receiver. "DTS-HD MA" will show up during BD playback on your PS3 if you are playing it correctly and your receiver will display "PCM".

yeah everyone saying set it to "PCM" is correct.

the ONLY time you'll set it to "bitstream" is if the ONLY audio track on the blu-ray is DD or DTS and it has no lossless audio.

Yes PS/3 should be set to PCM.

The receiver will show PCM.

The PS/3 details will show DTS MA and the bit rate will be above the 1.5 Mbps, more likely 3.0 or 4.0 Mbps
