Everything in my set-up is sweet, but its time for me to get some surround sound. I know very little when it comes to audio, so could someone steer me towards some decent audio systems. I would like to get quality for cheap (I know I know who doesnt..but kind of like samsung tv's) I need everything ...even an amp. What are some decent systems out there?
I would also prefer some speakers that come mounted on those skinny bars |

Hopefully that's your budget for interconnects. What's you budget for speakers, sub, receiver/pre/pro?
If $500 is your total budget, go to your nearest electronics shop and pick out the best HTiB for $500. No matter what, it's not going to be great but might be good enough to get you started. |

But I would advise you not to. You'll end up spending more money in the long wrong. Over time you won't be satisfied with your HTiB and you'll want more. So I would say it's better to just start down the right route. You can pick up a nice reciever on sale...Yamaha 663 or an Onkyo 606 for no more than $350 as newer models are coming in. Then go pick out a nice pair of bookshelf speakers to use as fronts. I'm thinking for you. An Onkyo 606. Polk CS10 and Polk TSi100 Bookshelf speakers. Or you can pick up a CS2 and Monitor 40s off amazon for about $340 together. It is the same as the TSi Line. It would be cheaper to and you would have better equipment as the CS1 and TSi100 have less power handling and smaller drivers. If you ever upgrade, you can just move the TSi 100 or M40s to the back to use as surrounds. But that setup would give you a solid frontstage for a while. Then from there I would try to find a Sub. I would say eD or Bic for starters. If you wanted to stretch your money for the best and something that would last you a little while longer, you could go with SVS. If you feel like you need a quick sub to be temporary in your setup. Look at the Polk PSW10. It should cost you no more than $80 If you shop around for it. Total should be around $700 dollars for the front stage and reciever and would be a good start to your HT. Plus it shouldn't leave you wanting more with a HTiB. So save up around another couple hundred dollars and you will end up with better stuff. |

thanks for the replies. I will write down your advice..I guess if you think about it isn't a sound system more important than a t.v. because of the longevity of it. Its not like speakers will become obsolete when new technology comes out like with t.v.'s (60hz to 120hz)
