Default what audio soundtrack is best ?

hello can anyone tell me what is the preferred choice of audio mix to use.

Dolby True HD, Dolby Digitial 5.1 or LPCM.

Sorry if this sounds stoopid but as a fairly new member learning the basics I just know you lot will help.

I have ordered the new Sony STR-DG820 a/v receiver and wish to know which audio set-up would be the best to use with this amp. Cheers guys.

Dolby TrueHD and LPCM are lossless audio codecs and should sound the same. Dolby Digital is a lossy codec and was developed for movie theaters, Laser Discs, Digital TV, and DVD to save space. Read A Guide to Home Theater Audio CODECs for explanation of all the codecs.

Your avatar is hilarious! haha
and yes you will hear a difference....though a big one depends on the movie and how the studio encoded it.

In theory, there should not be a difference between Dobly True HD, LPCM and DTM HDMA. All will be better then Dolby Digital 5.1.

As your receiver supports all the HD audio, I don't think you have to worry. If you find disks that have more then 1 HD audio track then you can try to compare if there is one you prefer over the other.

For me, I have not been able to hear any difference between TrueHD, DTS HDMA, and LPMC but I never really tested it very much. As long as I can have 1 of the 3 on any particular movie then I am happy.
