Default The Proper way to fix a windows PC

Well my frustration finally got the better of me. After the windows update I got the dreaded BSOD and after a few beers it sent me over the edge. So it looks like i will be building a new PC but I am considering a different OS. Enjoy the pics, I think I did what most people wish they could do. By the way Thermaltake builds a sturdy case this is after numerous hits from a 10# sledge hammer. ASUS mobo catch fire pretty easy, didn't get to pics of the smoke. Boy it it felt good to do that.

Thank god all the HD's were in a Raid 1 configuration so no data lost. Needless to say the wife is pissed because she can't believe I did that. But what does she care she has a super stable Apple. Maybe I should go that way.

I feel your pain. I had a Dell laptop that became a major source of frustration after I upgraded Vista with SP1. Why can't manufacturers update their drivers more often? Vista has been a total disappointment to me. It's worthless to upgrade if you have a stable XP machine.

Ummmm, yeah?

Vista is a joke. There is a reason Microsoft was "forced" by the market to keep selling XP for so long after they wanted to close it down...

Vista is a major reason I have avoided getting a new computer. It is maybe the worst OS in history. To do ANYTHING on it you have to let the machine know that, yes, you DID press a button. And that is just a built in problem, the bugs are a whole other story!

you do know you can turn off the UAC function. I just recently bought a Compaq laptop and so far I'm liking Vista.....no problems so far.

You could always build a computer and run linux on it.

If your not up for that just buy a mac.

I have server with a version of linux on it and it is super stable. But after using the wife's Mac, I'm beginning to really like it.

Decisions, decisions, decisions.

I built a new PC last Nov and installed Vista on it...it certainly is a pain but it gives that warning for security reasons.

Plus it likes to hide files where I have to search for them but it is OK. I thought at 1st XP would have been a better (and cheaper choice) but Vista has been OK. I have had only minor sound driver issues (which were cleared up as soon as I updated right after installed OS) and the PC not wanting to "shut-down" (fixed by a MS patch) using windows shut-down.

The intell chip has 4 rings of which two are used by Windows: kernal mode Ring 0, and user mode Ring 3. Kernal mode executive services keep user-mode programs from bumping into eachouther with program code which provides for a stable OS. A kernal-mode process, such as a divice driver, has only chip architecture to keep it in line. Errent drivers, for example, can run wild and cause stop events leading to BSOD.

Kernal Mode
The executing code has complete access to the hardware. It can execute any CPU instruction and reference any memory address. Kernel mode is for maximum performance.

User mode
The executing code can't directly access hardware or reference memory. Code running in user mode must delegate to system APIs to access hardware or memory. Due to the protection afforded by this sort of isolation, crashes in user mode are always recoverable.

Blue Screen of Death
Kernel threads are a set of registers, a stack, and a few corresponding kernel data structures.

Yeah i was going to say the guy just sledged his computer when a quick 5 second fix of most likely a bad driver, would of fixed the bsod problems.
