Blu-ray Knight

Hello all, I hope someone can help me out here with my situation. I've been watching Blu-ray's on my set up for a long time now, but unfortunately, do not have the money yet to upgrade to an HDMI Receiver. So I've had to output my audio from my PS3 to my Yamaha RXV1400 via Optical cable, and picture through HDMI straight to the TV.
Whenever I watch a DVD in surround sound, like 5.1 or 6.1, through my PS3, it shows up on the front display of the Receiver, lighting up which speakers are being used, as I'm sure most of you tech savvy enthusiasts are aware. However, whenever I play a Blu-ray disc, it will only show the front right and left speakers lit up, with nothing coming from the surround speakers. How can I get proper surround sound, or is my only option to buy an HDMI receiver? I have also tried using the Audio out option on my TV, taking the audio from the HDMI cable and then sending it to the Receiver that way, but this does not work either. Please help! |
