Is playing BD on PS3 bad for the console?

Ok, I don't know if this was a myth or not, but back in the day, we were told that playing dvds on the PS2 was bad for the PS2...

is this the same case with the PS3?

Logically, it shouldn't.

The myth starts with the idea that with PS2 games, the console reads short bursts of data from the PS2 games and then stays idle whereas a DVD is in constant read.

I don't know how these rumors get started, but the games are stored on BD. So, then playing games will be bad for the PS3 too. I have played dvds on my PS2 for years and the unit did not have any issues at all.

I and many others have watched 20 plus movies on the PS3 and my unit is still going strong.

Playing DVDs on a PS2 didn't have any bad effects. In fact one of my firends that did use it to DVDs still has his PS2 to this day. I never used it to play DVDs yet mine passed away a couple of years ago, yet both of us got ours around launch date.
