Default UK PS3 80gb Console

Does any1 know if the UK version of the PS3 is Backwards Compatible with PS2 games? I am looking for a Blu-Ray Player and as i already have a lot of PS2 games i thought it would be good to get a PS3 instead of a stand alone Blu-Ray player.

Nay good sir. All current models of the PS3 are not backwards compatible with PS2 games. All have PS1 backwards compatibility.

Yay good sir. The 20, 60 and MGS4/Motorstorm 80Gig PS3s are backwards compatible in varying degrees. 20 and 60 should be fully backwards compatible.

What do 80 gigs run you in the UK? 299 Pounds or so right? I guess it depends on how much you like playing your PS2 games.

Just make sure it runs okay, being second hand and all.

I have to concur. 2nd hand and Hi-tech aren't the best friends at least not in my experience.

My sister keeps my PS2 in her room coz she uses it to watch DVDs and play the games. thouhgt it would b handy if i had a ps3 compatible of playing PS2 games instead of swapping and changing the PS2 around rooms. for £299 do you think i should get an 80gb console or buy a stand alone player?

Well, you do like playing games don't you? It's not like you can't play PS3 games on the 80 Gig.

Also good to point out that if somewhere you can find a MGS4 pack 80Gb PS3, -that- 80Gb console is backward compatible PS2 (partial hard/soft).

In the UK the only PS2 backwards-compatible model is the 60GB.

There's no point buying a non-European console with BC because PS2 games aren't region free.

Quoted for truth. £370 is very steep. I only paid £300 for mine over a year ago.

60GB machines are much louder, but they do have 4 USB's and the memory card readers as well as ps2 BC. If the 40gb machine does eventually get BC for ps2 you would have wasted alot of money on 2 extra usb's;

I am not sure why a trading forum thread hasn't opened here yet for this very situation. There must be 1000's of 60GB owners who don't even use PS2 games on it. If I were one of them I would swap my 60GB machine for a brand new 40GB machine in a heartbeat.
