Default Stand alone DVD player or use PS3?

Should I use a DVD player to play my DVD's or will it be ok to use the PS3? I was thinking of just using the PS3 for BD and games and play the DVDs on a different player? Any Thoughts?

I have 2 PS3's and use them for all Blu-Ray and DVD playing. One is hooked up to a surround sound system that also comes with a DVD player but I still use the PS3.

I use a seperate unit for DVD playback... gotta use the HD DVD player I got for free for something! Plus, this saves the PS3 laser the extra work and therefore prolongs the life of the equipment.

I've used my PS3 for (PS3 games, PS2 games, DVD's, Blue-rays) and hasn't skipped a beat since December 2006.

Use the PS3. It's the best player.

Same here, unless I have been watching blu-rays, in which case I am usually to lazy to wait for the hd-dvd player to boot up and eject when I can just slide the disc in the ps3 and start watching. But normally all my dvd watching is on my hd-dvd player to save wear and tear on the ps3.

My dvd's are pretty much retired. I only watch Blu now. DVD's just don't look or sound great to me anymore.

So you only watch about 85 movies out of about 1110?

I have a PS3 but it cannot hold a candle to my Sim Audio dvd player, not in the same league really, so the Moon gets all my dvd use.

I don't watch DVDs anymore, so it's a moot point for me.

Is it better then Blu Ray players? Does it offer the same listening options? Can it still play DVD's? And for that matter does a Blu Ray play DVD's? What is the top of the line B Ray players? Any info would be appreciated. Oh I have an Onkyo TX NR905 if that helps.

I ended up buying the DVP5992 from costco saturday. This will make it easier for other people to play dvd's and cd's when I am not there.

use a seperate dvd player to watch your movies, to me ps3 absolutely sucks at upconversion, I don't know why people say it does a fantastic job of it. My sony dvd changer blows it away.

i dont agree my ps3 upscales pretty good, the picture may be a little softer in picture when upscaling dvds then having a blu-ray but its a lot better then just having a plain old dvd player. maybe you need to adjust the settings on your ps3

When possible (the PS3 is region coded while my universal-sans-BD player is not) I use the PS3 because it can do slow-mo forwards and backwards. That's something neat that my player can't do but it can zoom in on a portion of the screen while the PS3 cannot.
