Metal Gear Solid 5 Confirmed, MGS 4 'Probably Not Possible' on Xbox 360

Following teases of a new entry in the stealth-action series, now-former Kojima Productions employee Ryan Payton has confirmed that Metal Gear Solid 5 is on the way.

"It'll be hard not being involved in MGS5, but I've got the utmost confidence that Hideo Kojima, Ken Imaizumi, and our amazing team will put together another blockbuster game," Payton told Kotaku in an interview regarding his departure.

In addition to handling the studio's podcast, Payton served as a producer for Metal Gear Solid: Portal Ops (PSP) and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (PS3).

Meanwhile, series creator Hideo Kojima expressed his thoughts on multiplatform development and noted his frustration with constant inquiries regarding the oft-rumored possibility of Metal Gear Solid 4 on Xbox 360.

"Because MGS4 was optimized for the PS3 it is probably not possible [on Xbox 360]," he explained to Eurogamer, citing media and technology differences.

"If the hardware technology rises then obviously, you know, [my future games] won't be based on the hardware anymore," Kojima noted. "Probably I will first create the software and then, um, it's a strange word to say, but port to other hardware if that technological ability rises in all areas."

"What kind of disturbs me sometimes, because a lot of people ask me about this PS3/360 question, is that it's not about the hardware," he concluded. "I want people to look at the game itself. Sometimes I even feel like it should be on a PC so that people don't ask me about hardware and platforms."

Sounds like he just doesn't care plain and simple to release it on any other system because he thinks that its not possible.

So hes saying that once other systems can do what the PS3 (and future Playstation Systems) can handle, then he'll 'port' the games.

While I enjoy playing games on my XBox 360, I must admit that playing Metal Gear Solid 4 is a totally different experience and is definitely one of the best video games I've ever played. The graphics are amazing. I was playing Halo 3 over the weekend, then started playing Metal Gear, and the graphics from MGS made Halo look last gen. I understand where Kojima is coming from.

"From what I've read, the need to install game content to the HD on PS3 is due to the slower and non-linear speed of reading data from Blue-ray compared to the super-fast (and loud as hell) DVD drive on the 360. 360's DVD drive is so loud because it spins very fast to allow quicker data read speeds. I'd take installation to long load times anyday. In the case of streaming data (for levels, sounds, movies etc.) fast read speeds are critical."

Looks like he is ALSO tired of the console war, even though his game is caught up in the middle of it. I can't blame him honestly. Even though I prefer the PS3, I just wish the games would stay out of the console war since they SHOULD be independant of the hardware.
Still, having a 5th game is going to rick, and knowing Kojima, he will want to make it better than the last one so it is either another PS3 title or one for the next generation (or at least the next xbox)

What, so games should all be scaled down to satisfy the lowest common denominator? In that case, what do we even need a PS3 for? May as well just buy the cheapest system, then, since utilizing the superior capabilities of PS3 is "getting caught up in the console war", and wanting games optimized for PS3 is just "fanboyism".

this console war compared to others is just so one sided....the PS3 just has so much more power then the 360 its not even fair....Microsoft is to blame for not making it better but average to get a market advantage quicker....

And if you read in between the lines, seems to me that Kojima still has no idea why he should be developping MGS5 for 360, he is only concerned with making the best possible game by using the most advanced (in his mind, if not in reality) platform possible.
What I read here is that MGS5, until proven otherwise, will also be PS3 exclusive (at least for the moment).
