issue with Yamaha RXV463 and PS3

i got the yamaha RXV463 today and for some reason everytime i play a movie on my ps3 or even go back the ps3 main menu i have to select a different setting on the receiver and then click back to the setting that i have my ps3 on...i have to do this a couple times till i get something to show up on the screen. so say if my ps3 is on the DVD setting then i would have to click any other setting on the receiver then click on DVD again to get something from the ps3 to show up on my tv. Anyone ever have this issue?

i grabbed my old sony receiver to see if it would happen with that but it seems to work work great. since the yamaha doesn't work and my sony doesn't have any hdmi in/outputs and seems to be a little out dated i want to try to find another receiver to buy. i only have a 5.1 speaker setup so i'm trying to find another 5.1 receiver unless a 7.1 can recognize a 5.1 setup???...any suggestions? i'm looking to spend under 400.
