Default snow rant

i love the snow and love skiing. however, where i live we have received 96+ inches of snow the past week. it is freaking amazing. i look out my slider and the snow comes to at least the middle of my chest. the downside, shoveling and snowblowing sucks. i have been blowing twice a day for the past week and still can't keep up and have simply given up on a portion of my driveway.

ok, rant over

And this would be the perfect excuse to just lock yourself inside and do nothing but watch Blu-rays. At least thats what I would do, well that and start looking online for real estate somewhere far far away from where you are.

lol, i love it here (south lake tahoe) though. this is the biggest storm in years as is my understanding. what we had in the past week has brough us up to our yearly avg after a very dry winter.

as far as locking myself inside, i can't. work is within stumbling distance plus i basically run the show here. besides, movies do get old after multiple viewings and there is no way for me to get off the hill right now to buy more. btw, did i mention even shipping like ups and usps have been held up?

Well here in Lower Michigan we have had only one mid-level storm (6" at the most ) and that is it for the whole winter, and with March around the corner, and temps already hitting the 40's and 50's this week, winter might be over for us here.

well theres nothing like chicago's winters. let me tell you. everywhere else it might snow up the ass and what not but we have some of the coldest winters by far. as the saying goes "if your a bum and can survive in chicago one year, including winter, you can survive anywhere" . but if i had the chance i would move out of this frigid hell hole . i would rather live in a tropical area all year round.

Theknub I'll swap You. I'm just wearing a pair of shorts sweating like a pig (yeah I know they don't really sweat). I will certainly have renovations done and air con in for next summer. Roll on Autumn.

lol, i love cold weather, but u never anticipate having to shovel twice a day and then the snow plow leaving u a 4 ft burm at the end of your driveway. of course, i don't mind heat but deal a lot better with it when it's not humid.

Years ago when I lived in Alaska they had the "4 ft burm at the end of your driveway" problem solved. They used "road graders" for the residential streets (don't know if that is still the common term). These had a hydraulicly controlled metal "cap" which the driver activated to close off the end of the blade as they went by your driveway. As soon as it passed your driveway the driver raised the cap and all the snow that would have been tossed into the end of your driveway ended up in a large pile just next to your driveway -- not in it. It worked extremely well. Admittedly, they couldn't do 25 to 30 mph down your street and still do this, but at 10-15 mph it worked extremely well.

I've often wondered over the past three decades why every municipality that deals with snow on residential streets does not do the same thing.

Now when you can climb out a second story window onto the snow because it's drifted that deeply you can claim a lot of snow. I've only experienced that once. And once was enough.

Still, I'd rather have the snow and cold than the heat.... You can always bundle up more to go out, but you can only take so much off before you get arrested!
