As part of their official Q1 Questions and Answers session, Capcom has revealed a belief that the PS3 is in full swing after the success of MGS 4. However, they noted they are not just focusing on PS3 and would like to supply their software evenly across the Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms.
quote: Q. Do you feel that PlayStation 3 (PS3) has expanded sufficiently for the release of large-scale titles such as "Resident Evil 5"? A. We believe that PS3 has finally reached full swing after looking at the success of "Metal Gear Solid 4," as well as future large-scale title lineups. In addition, some reduction in the PS3's price was announced at the 2008 E3, and we can expect its spread to increase by next March when our "Resident Evil 5" for PS3 will be released. Moreover, as we are not only focusing on PS3, we would also like to spread our supply of software evenly between Wii and Xbox 360 while their markets in the world increase in a similar manner to PS3. Well with 15 million PS3's in homes and more as time goes by, it would be a pity if they ignored the machine

I don't like the emphasis of them making multi platform games. Its sad that the PS3 is Sony's first console that is capable of the most, yet is suffering from multi platform setbacks. Probably more than the Xbox1 before it.
The PS3 lacks identity, only Sony can change that. |

While I feel that there is still a lot more potential for the PS3, and future price drops will increase demand a lot, I am glad to see that it is finally getting the good coverage it deserves. I hope this means Capcom and other developers will make more PS3 content.

I think that comment refers to Exclusives. your Identity is based on what you have and do compared to what others have and do (not just material goods, but personality etc) and right now most of what the Playstation has and Does, the Xbox can too. But that's before the playstation lives up to it's full potential... And metal gear proved that the playstation isn't the red-headed stepchild everybody thought... It's the red-headed stepchild that turned out to be a Drop-dead Gorgeous Model.

Everyone needs to face the fact that from this generation forward no system will ever experience the high number of 3rd-party console exclusives as in the past. It's just not a financially possible given the high production costs of top-tier titles. Now, that being said the two companies that are in the best position to deliver great exclusive games are Nintendo and Sony. Sony has more 1st and 2nd party exclusive studios in its stable than either Microsoft or Nintendo. Nintendo thrives by having the best franchise properties in its portfolio with Mario and Co. However, third party developers are floundering with the Wii, and that will hurt the console long-term.
Microsoft has the weakest 1st party portfolio by far, and that situation has worsened with Bungie and Bizarre Creations recently leaving the company. Microsoft must now drag their checkbook out to get exclusive titles or downloadable content. As their overall marketshare continues to dwindle though, how long do you think they'll be able to keep that up? Sony has a good list of 1st party exclusives coming down the pipeline. They'll just have to make sure they have a continuous stream of new exclusives being developed. They also should continue actively refining the PS3's Edge development tools, so PS3 development and Cell management become easier and easier for a developer to use. |

The era before that, the N64 stood out as the cartoony lovers dream come true with Mario esque titles and Goldeneye amongst others. The PS1 was again the all rounder with everything that catered for niche markets as well as mass markets and the Saturn just catered for the Japanese. In this era, the 360 and PS3 (so far) have tried very similar things. The games have mostly been adaptations of real life with a twist of fantasy. But mostly its the same game engines tweaked to take slightly different themes. Lastly, all the games feature better graphics, but few match the artistic measure of the last gen games. SoTC, GOW1 and 2, Ico, Prince of Persia had production values ahead of their time since this generation putting 8 million polygons on the screen at once is more important than what your doing with them. Thats just my opinion. |

At least they're acknowledging PS3. But they should put PS3 on top! Like they did when Resident Evil 4 first came out. Cut the evenly distributed bs. That's just like saying PS3 is JUST AS GOOD as any other system. Is that even a complement?

I'm glad I returned my MGS4 before opening it. I can now buy a used copy, already, for like $25.
![]() Might be me, but it seems like MGS4 was but a flicker. Lots of build up and a quick die down. The last part of this year should be interesting though. I'm not really that impressed with either system as far as exclusives go. Glad I have both. I don't need to worry or wonder about such things. ![]() |
