Default Help choosing first Plasma

So last night I went and measured my sitting distance from the TV I currently have and I sit 8ft. away from the TV. Sometimes a little closer when playing video games.

Now if I understand this correctly, by the chart listed here:
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=33462
I would be fine with a 720p? So I can get a 42"-50" Plasma at my seating difference and as long as the contrast and color are superior I'd be ok?

Help!

8ft away is fairly far for the size tv's your looking at, ideally you'd get a 65" screen. With that in mind you should go for a 50" from panasonic or pioneer, 1080P if you can afford it. Also, if you can move the seating area a foot or two closer it should improve your viewing experience.

The way our apartment is setup and the way my wife decorates, that is not really an option.

I was looking at this Panny on sale at BB: TH-50PX80U

you would probably want a 1080p if you are going 50 inches

So buy it. Do you want 1080p? What do you want to spend? What size? Look into other brands other than Panasonic. There are plenty of options.

Well, 50" would be really nice for watching movies with friends at our place and for gaming sessions. My wife is looking forward to LBP so a nice TV to show that off would be cool.

We don't want to spend more than $1500. I would go 42"-50". I'm interested in this Panny cause of the reputation they have for making quality plasmas.

Should I wait until Black Friday? I hear that there may be some insane sales this year.

OP - I'd go with the TH-50PZ85U if you can squeeze an extra $135 into your budget. At 8ft you may well resolve all the detail of 1080p with around 20/20 vision and you're getting more accurate colours and better contrast.
BuyDig has it for $1635 shipped.

Abe's don't have a good rating with Better Business Bureau, Buy Dig does so I'd go with them first.

If you don't know anything about it and you haven't looked into it, I wouldn't recommend it.

Because of price for size and contrast/color. I don't mind having to break-in the set.
