Default Receiver suggestion

If I was to buy a new receiver, what's a good one?

I was looking at the Yamaha RX-V663.

I want something for around $500. Good video/audio switching capablity from HDMI. I do not want to lose quality.

The 663 is a great choice- love mine... they can be found if you're patient for sometimes under 400. Good suggestions above also. ^

I'm far from patient but I'm far from loaded either so I'll be patient for a good price.

I got mine for 450 from Best Buy... there was some guy on this site a couple months ago that had a coupon code or something and people were paying around 385... maybe he'll make an appearance on this thread.

This appears to be the one I'm going for, people seem very happy. Now if one of those people that have deal knowledge would show up, today might be the day I go broke..again...

The Pioneer VSX -1018TX is right in your wheelhouse. Seen them going for under $500 for a while now.

If you can wait, get the Onkyo 805. The 663 is comparable to the Onkyo 605 or 606 (both being cheaper than the 663) and the 805 is comparable to the 863, which is a lot more than the 805. The 805 will probably sound the best compared to the 663 while not breaking the bank to upgrade to a better quality receiver.

I have an onkyo right now and although I like the receiver, I hate the way it runs so hot all the time. I will do some research on this though. Thanks for the tip.

The 663 is definitely the best bang for the buck!

*PHONE* authorized dealers jr.com (Larone) and 6ave.com (Dave) and ask for 'special AVS price' which is ~$359 SHIPPED. Check both! Price is not listed on their web sites.

Awesome, thanks for the tip! I was also just looking on ebay and there are people offering 319 plus 39.00 shipping so the deals are compareable.

Anyone have experience buying from 6ave? Will I receive my order fairly quickly or is it common to have to wait?

Over on AVS Forum there are HUNDREDS of people on the 663 thread that have gotten this deal from jr.com and 6ave.com and no-one has had any issues with the customer service of either one. In fact, both Larone and Dave post on that thread!

im a full time student with a part time job, and so for that same reason i am in a tight budget! I recently purchased a pair of klipsch rf-82's for my future 5.1 home theater surround sound system! i was originally going to purchase a fairly good receiver, for example: Yamaha 663 or the onkyo 705-605, but then came to realize that i rather wait and have no receiver, than buy a cheap one and wanting to upgrade in the future! so now i want to purchase the pioneer elite 94, thats right! i said PIONEER ELITE 94!
