Default BDPS 300 pausing issue

I have had this happen a few times now. When watching the Incredible Hulk the pic just paused and would not do anything until I shut the machine down from the front of the unit. Then last night I was watching Kung Fu Panda on DVD and the same thing happened again it just froze about 30 min into it. I have the 4.2 firmware upgrade. I watched Clone wars right before Panda and had no issues with the disc (the movie itself is another story). I was just wondering if any one else has had this issue.

FW version 4.3 has been out now for a few weeks. You might want to update to see if that helps.

Yep...Krisjan is right...you should do a firmware update.
Hulk should work ok with 4.20 but still update.

Welcome to the world of early Sony blu-ray players. I have the 300 and BDP-S1 (total investment = $1400) and have experienced the "freezing" problem many times. Forget about the latest updates - they don't help. My suggested course of action is to pick up one of the new Samsung 1500 players on Black Friday at Sears for $180 and throw your Sony's in the garbage (where they belong).

Explain that one to the wife. I did get CC 3 year warranty and I have had good experience with them replacing items if they cannot figure out the problem or fix it. Maybe I'll wait till all the BDPS 300's are gone.

I think it's the disc, and not your machine. I had the same exact thing happen with The Incredible Hulk, and I use a PS3. In fact, it's the first time my PS3 has ever paused or locked up like that, and it did it twice in a row with Hulk. For me, it happened when I paused the film. After a couple of minutes, it went to a Universal screen saver of sorts, but I couldn't get it to resume or do anything without shutting down the PS3 completely.

I'm pretty sure it's the disc and not your player. Is Kung Fu Panda a Universal release too? If so, they've got an issue on their end.

Although it could be the disc, my experience has been to the contrary. I have had disc the freeze while watching Dr. No, Transformers, Journey to the Center of the Earth, Planet Earth, Spiderman, and others, just to name a few. After reboot, the player proceeds without freezing in the scenes where it previously froze. This is particularly embarrassing when other people are at our house watching a movie, it freezes, then we have to go through the reboot cycle. Comparing the boot-up speed of these early players to molasses gives molasses a bad name.

It's the player -- though it doesn't happen very often, I've experienced the freezing issue as well. Happened during Ratatouille, Sleeping Beauty, Across the Universe. Of course, that's only four or five times in almost a year, so, not a big deal.

The only thing I don't like about the BDP-S300 is the inability to upgrade it to Profile 1.1 or 2.0, but I knew that going in.
