PS3 Store - No Love for US in UK... - Blu-ray Forum

So....I finally got my PS3 over here (moved from US to UK for a couple of years) and online only to find I can't download any shows/movies from the US store. Guess it is 'region' locked. Personally I think this is pretty lame...really, how many people in the UK have a US PS3 and US account? Too few to make a real difference in anything I'm sure.

At least (for now) I can still get my games.

Thanks for nothing Sony...I'll just use Itunes to get the shows I want. Your loss...

Yes, the store is region locked. Too bad that we here in Europe have to wait until '09. Not just that, its the PSN cards haven't had an EU announcement yet. I believe that the reason for all this is not just localisation, but the different distribution and lisencing laws that we have to suffer through. It would have been really better if Sony did this during the development process for the games.

Yeah but look on the bright side, you get Play TV and the US will never get Play TV which is lame as hell.

Well its still too bad for us here in Ireland as we don't have a nationwide DVB-T format. Its still only being tested in certain areas here.

We are more or less at the same level over here in Belgium. Well we have DVB broadcasts and I am one who watch those but we only have 6 channels and DVB began only at the beginning of 2008. Comparing to France where DVB has about 20 channels.

Ahh...but I don't because I have a US PS3 that won't work w UK Play TV

Only channels i get is AFN, and there's nothing worth watching on that. lol. I'm at a point where I just wait for season sets on DVD/BD.

I wouldn't really blame Sony for this. Lots of different laws and people to work with getting it out in the UK. We don't get the service in Canada either by the way (although I've never actually tried connecting to the US store - always just assumed it was identical to the Canadian one except for currency)
