Default Samsung to release a HD DVD equipped laptop?

Quote:
Blu-ray backer Samsung releases HD-DVD product.
Announcement
By Henning Molbaek
FIRST PUBLISHED Mar 5, 2007
Longtime Blu-ray backer Samsung recently showed off a laptop computer with HD-DVD drive.

If this is a sign of change from the first company to release a Blu-ray player in the US is uncertain. Will they release a stand alone player? If so this will be a major boost for the HD-DVD camp.

The laptop will first be released in Samsung's homeland Korea and feature a full 17" HD (1920×1200) LCD screen.
What's up what that? I hope it doesn't become a trend.

The drive comes from their TSST venture with Toshiba, so it was to be expected. They actually made the decision a while ago I remember, and remember that this is Samsung Computers, not Samsung Electronics.

I was just in the Samsung store at the Time Warner Building in New York where they show off most of their future releases and was talking to a few representatives from Samsung there. They have no intention of releasing HD-DVD standalones and are not even sure to what extent if any they will be releasing laptops with HD-DVD drives here in the US. In their mind they seem to think that by the time they could even get around to releasing those here in the US that the war might be over thus making it extremely pointless from their prospective.

Well, in that case there shouldn't be a reason to worry. Although, as I was reading more about this, it seems like HD DVD fans are getting their hopes up thinking there might be light for them at the end of a long tunnel.

DTMoney is right, this sounds like a Corean release only, no mention of any other dates.
