Default Comcast HD Cable

For anyone who has Comcast's HD DVR service I have a question. I don't think I'm hooking things up right. I have a Panasonic 1080P Plasma from 2007 and when I watching cable via the HD box my tv's status button only show 480i regardless of whether the channel is in HD or not. I have it connected into my TV with an HDMI cable. The manual recommends using component cables to get "true HD," but wouldn't HDMI give the same or better resolution? Thanks for any help, Tim.

you got it hooked up right, its your box, it needs a setting change

what box do you have

PS, you are only going to get 720p, or 1080i , there is no 1080p

I forgot to mention that I have gone into the menu and changed the settings on the box to 1080i. The box is a Motorola 6412III I think. Thanks for the quick reply.

so are you getting 1080i now??

if not

the scientific boxes have a function, i belive its the info button and guide button (on the box)at the same time (holding them down) while the box is off, well bring up the HD setup wizard

Your going to want to run the manual setup so you can get your preferd settings

Ok, I redid the settings and now it's showing 1080i, but the guide seems like it's in 4:3 while the picture is in 16:9. it was the same width as the screen before. Anyway to adjust this? Thanks again?

you mean the guide is showing up like in a regular sd format?

if so, no, and unfortuantly the Sd / digital stations show up this way too. (but you can do zoom on them)

the guide is not setup for HD so it is going to show up like it is on a regular sd screen

Also make sure you press the "Menu" button twice to bring up the settings screen now that you've got the HD Wizard complete. (HD Wizard: Make sure EVERYTHING that works with your tv is selected. Meaning 480i, 480p, 720, and 1080i. DO NOT set it up for only 720p or 1080i)Go to picture format and make sure its set to "Auto DVI/HDMI".

And I think it goes without saying, but make sure your TV is on the correct input and NOT on channel 3 like some people do.

If you have anymore questions about your HD cable box service let me know.
