I was wondering if anyone has had the chance to audition the ST or STS line from Definitive. Also, any ideas for a good center to compliment these. I have been looking at them a lot lately but have not had the chance to give them a listen. Worth the price? Are there better speaker for the money? I would need something to compliment my current Pro Monitor 1000's I plan on keeping for my rears.

I own the Definitive Technolgy BP 2000 with built-in 15" subwoofers and C/L/R 2000 center channel. The 2000 was the flagship model about 10 years ago. They are equivalent to BP 7000. The only difference is that the 7000 speakers have bigger amplifier for the built-in subwoofers. They are very musical and can shake the house. I am completely satisfied with them and recommend them without hesitation.
The Mythos Super Towers are also exceptional. I have listened to them and they are worth every penny. Even a high end magazine such as Stereophile ranks them very high and recommends them. If you decide to buy them, you should buy the Mythos center channel speaker to properly timbre match your three front speakers. I believe they have two models. |

I've listened to the STS, and they sounded good. They were good for music, and great for movies with the built in sub. The only thing you could fault them for (if it's a fault), is they don't include all the detail as other speakers in their price do, at least in my listening. Again, not really a fault, just something to note. I really did enjoy the sound and styling of these though.

Use them as full range speakers. The subs are great - very clean - but aren't powerful enough unless you're in a small room. (If the room is small, you're set.) Amazing sound. Very "bright". Absolutely the best, and timbre-match it with any of the Mythos line for your center speaker. I went overkill with Mythos 1 surrounds, Mythos 10 center and Mythos 3's for rears; your ProMonitors will be fine for those chores. I haven't seen the STS - probably less bass, but definitely, they'll deliver that stunning clarity you're looking for. LISTEN FIRST...it's your ears and your money. I also have audiophile gear for music - Sonus Faber Domus, Vienna Acoustics Bach, and I think for softer music, they're preferred - but Definitive is best for my film library. My two cents... |
