Buena Vista Worldwide Home Entertainment Springs into Action with Four More Blu-ray Discs in April 2007

Titles Include King Arthur, G.I. Jane, Déjà vu and Academy Award® Winner The Queen

BURBANK, Calif.--Buena Vista Worldwide Home Entertainment (BVWHE) today announced their slate of Blu-ray Disc® releases for April 2007, all of which are presented on the newest high definition 50 GB disc. Titles will include King Arthur and G.I. Jane, which will be in stores on April 3, and Déjà vu and The Queen, available on April 24. Most Blu-ray™ titles from BVWHE will be available for $34.99 SRP.

The action-packed King Arthur (Clive Owen, Keira Knightley) on Blu-ray Disc will feature original DVD bonus materials including audio commentary by director Antoine Fuqua, the featurette “Blood on the Land: Forging King Arthur,” a cast & filmmaker roundtable, alternate ending, and Blu-ray exclusive Movie Showcase. G.I. Jane (Demi Moore, Viggo Mortensen) on Blu-ray Disc includes the exclusive Movie Showcase.

Tony Scott’s action-thriller Déjà vu (Denzel Washington, Val Kilmer) on Blu-ray Disc will include DVD bonus features including the “Surveillance Window” featurette which gives an in-depth look at how and where the film was made, numerous deleted and extended scenes, and the Blu-ray exclusive Movie Showcase. Déjà vu was written by Bill Marsilii and Terry Rossio, and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer.

The Academy Award® winner The Queen (Helen Mirren -- Best Actress, 2006) on Blu-ray Disc will include DVD bonus features including a making-of featurette, feature commentary with director Stephen Frears and writer Peter Morgan, feature commentary with British Historian and Royal expert Robert Lacey, and the Blu-ray exclusive Movie Showcase.

BVWHE’s Blu-ray titles feature advanced new menus offering seamless navigation and on-the-fly preference selection; dynamic and unparalleled high-definition picture quality; new layer-coating technology that provides a scratch-resistant surface; Movie Showcase which highlights the most impressive high-definition picture and sound moments on the disc; and new sleek packaging. Other Disney Blu-ray feature technologies being developed include unmatched interactive features and compelling online content utilizing web connectivity, which will allow users to connect to live events hosted by the studio.

Blu-ray Disc is the next-generation optical disc format for high-definition video and high-capacity software applications. A single-layer Blu-ray Disc will hold up to 25GB of data, and a double-layer Blu-ray Disc will hold up to 50GB of data. Blu-ray Disc is supported by the world’s leading consumer electronics, personal computer and gaming companies, and, with seven of eight Hollywood studios releasing their high-definition content on Blu-ray Disc, Blu-ray will deliver the widest variety of high-definition, home entertainment content.

Looks good. Disney seems pretty intent on putting all of their movies on 50gb discs and cranking the bitrate. I wonder if these movies are getting AVC encodes?

I'm impressed by their dedication to pushing the specs. Some formal announcements for more UK/Euro BD's would be nice though.
