It's not that hard to update.
If you can't handle new technology, you shouldn't be buying new technology!

Updating your player with the latest firmware is probably something you should try if you haven't already.

Works fine for me (but using a PS3).

Updates are a way of life and usually a way to improve your experience.
Computers, Ipods, Playstation, 360, PSP, that nintendo piece of crap, your router and nearly any software that you use all use updates.

I can not count the times that calls get put into tech support because people just refuse to read the manual and get even the most minute education about the products that they rush out and buy and shockingly they always tend to blame everyone but themselves.

Updating blu ray players is easy, there have been some great posts and information on this site and most companies make it very easy whether it is just burn a cd or us a usb drive.

There are countless things in life to spend time stressing and being cranky about, this is not one of them.

The Samsung 1400 is the player that I originally bought. Returned it after about a week, when it had problems with several titles.

Also, the tech support that I received was poor. They claimed to not know of any problems with the unit playing certain titles. They couldn't even understand the problems I was describing to them. Nor could/would they tell me when a firmware upgrade would be released to fix the problems. No way I was going to wait on them to get their shit together.

Got the Panny BD30, and not a single problem with any title.

If you are still within your return window, I suggest returning it and getting another manufacturer's Blu-Ray player.

I will never buy a Samsung product again. I've seen too many posts regarding problems with the Sammys.

The OP said he was told to 'upgrade' his player.

Is there maybe confusion between 'upgrade' (buy a new player) and 'update' (install the latest firmware)?

If product support told me I had to spend another $300-$400 to watch a recent blu ray I'd be hot as well.

But I'll bet the rep was referring to an 'update'...

You took the words out of my mouth! I might also add, don't abandon an entire technology (Blu-Ray) because of a bad experience with a brand.

That's your problem right there

Samsung sucks. Good luck with the firmware upgrade, it may help

This whole 'upgrade your player' deal is what will hold Blu-ray back in the future as Blu-ray starts to grow more mainstream. This will give BD a bad rep that's for sure. People will go to rent a movie and wonder why this new movie (or old movie) won't play on their new player Ethernet jacks on all player would help but DRM will always find ways of messing things up for PAYING customers. If studios don't mind thousands of returned Blu-rays, I sure don't, but it may keep BD costs up...

Until a reasonably priced stand alone full profile player that is region free for dvd and blu either out of the box or via hack comes my way I can find no holes in your logic.
