Hey guys. Just a couple of questions and thoughts. I'm always trying to get the best out of my system and learn as much as I can about calibrating my sound system and t.v. so I just have a couple of things I was wondering about. Here is a link to the subwoffer I have.
http://www.energy-speakers.com/na-en...pecifications/ This sub states also that it is an amplifier as well. I'm kind of confused on the whole amplifier thing. The idea is to have a seperate amp for your diferrent frequencies right ? (high's and lows?) So can I use this somehow to improve my sound. Also on my receiver(yamaha 663) I have the option to tweak each individual speaker. It's in the equalizer menu. It list different hrtz and has the option to change the decibal output. How do I know what to set these at?? Will the autp set-up fix those fro me?? Because I never got the mic with mine. Thanks guys. |

As far as your sub working as an amp, that is for stereo speakers. You can amp your front left and right speakers through your subwoofer. However, I don't do that and I am not sure what other people do. If you do not know too much about sound, I would reccommend using the auto calibration as it will change all your settings and properly balance your speakers. From what I have heard, the 663 does a decent job of calibrating speaker settings. You should have gotten a mic. If not, contact yamaha, or the store you bought it from. Worse comes to worse you could probably buy one for pretty cheap. I hope this helps.

Your subwoofer has a built in amplifier to power itself, no external speakers. A lot of subs now are powered, such as yours, to allow for an LFE input with no additional amplifiers. (If you see speaker terminals on the back of your sub, that is if you are using an amplifier without a subwoofer out. In this case, the subwoofer takes whatever frequencies you have your crossovers set to, and then sends the rest out to your speakers. The power to your speakers is still coming from your amplifier/receiver, NOT the subwoofer amplifier.) To tweak your system, I would recommend using the auto function if you aren't too sure about crossover frequencies (Hz) and dB levels. It all depends on what speakers you have, distance, and placement for what you should set everything to. Don't worry about the actual numbers, make sure it sounds good to YOU.
