Default Amplifier Help

Ok I am currently running an Onkyo 805 and my front speakers are JBL Northridge E-80's (see pic). In a discussion with a sales person from BB (seemed to know what the heck he was talking about, but who knows, that's why I am here) he said that running a three way speaker as my fronts off the 805 I would not be able to fully power them and get as good as sound as I could get and I should add an amp to the system. Now when it comes to anything past a reciever I am clueless. I would not want to spend a crap load of money on one either but something decent. Do amps for HT work like car amps??? run everything to reciever, have preouts on back and run to channels on an amp and hook speakers to the amp??? Then I get extra power sent to my fronts???? If so do all I need is a 2 channel amp??? HELLPPPPP!!!!!!! So very cornfused... just want the best sound I can get. If you need more info on my system let me know.

Your speakers are def not underpowered by the 805. The amp assembly on the 805 is spectacular for an A/V reciever. It also bench tests very well, little to no drop in power with all channels driven. I think the only real benefit you will see from switching to separates will be detail. You may be able to shave off some distortion by going with a separate amp as well, but it is not going to be cheap.

I was afraid of the not cheap part...lol. So do I need an amp to run all the speakers or just a 2 channel to run the fronts. I know Onkyo has an amp that is really not bad on price but it is only a stereo amp, do they make HT amps for 7.1???

The Emotiva XPA-2 seems to be a really really nice 2ch amp for 799$

Read the first impressions from audioholics

I am very interested in this amp, however the need to wire another electrical circuit is holding me off for the moment!
