Default Zebraman (Media Blasters, October 27 2020)

Takashi Miike's 2004 tokusatsu homage/parody is coming to Blu-ray this October from Media Blasters.

I saw this film earlier this year and really enjoyed the characters and humor. The sequel has been released to Blu-ray by Funimation in 2011.

Holy shit. PLEASE Tokyo Shock don't mess this up. One of my most wanted films to Blu-ray. Was hoping Arrow would release it.

Also, in case someone has never seen this movie, I HIGHLY suggest checking it out. It's one of Miike's best films and is really entertaining and fun.

Special features only list "trailers, theme song, photo gallery and more!" so I wonder if it will have any of the material from the 2-disc DVD set that I bought late last year.

Edit: nvm, just found a listing. I would hope they would have all those on the blu-ray, seeing as the DVD was put out by TokyoShock.

I must admit I like the sequel more than the first one.

I think Zebraman 2 is simply OK. I think the first is ten times better, but that's just my opinion on it.

I liked the first Zebraman better too, but the sequel is still pretty fun and much more bizarre.

Media Blasters posted the trailer for Zebraman 2. I asked them in the comments if they were teasing a future release or just sharing a cool trailer and they replied 'both'.

Didn't really have any problems with the Funimation Blu-ray release of Zebraman 2 (besides being in a DVD-sized g1 case) and it's pretty cheap to find though could be out of print. I guess we will see what Media Blasters brings.

I'm a fan of the original but haven't seen the sequel, the trailer looked very far removed from the original. However, I love Miike so I'm definitely down to check it out someday.

Yeah, didn't expect that. This might be their first new Japanese pick up in 10 years or so. They have mostly just released the same things over and over again.

I don't think they will be able to improve on the Funimation release, besides the box. I had to cut the insert a little bit in order to fit into a Blu-ray case as I didn't want a Blu-ray to have a DVD case. We'll see I guess.

I'm just crossing my fingers the first looks a lot better than the DVD and not just a tiny upgrade like their first release of Machine Girl. Still, they have been getting better.

I think they've been teasing some anime releases that wasn't previously from them (Doomed Megalopolis was released to DVD by ADV) so they've picked up some new things. Not sure about live action.

Oh, they are releasing Doomed Megalopolis? Never watched that one, but the cover always looked cool.

I really wonder if they picked up some other live action films. It would be nice if they upgraded some of their titles. I was almost certain that the Zebraman rights had lapsed, but apparently not. So we'll see what else they have.

I don't see enough interest to make a new thread, but since this thread is attracting other toku fans - MB is releasing the Devilman movie to Blu-ray in November.

I haven't seen this one but it's been pretty panned by fans of the source material (as often live action adaptions are). I'll check it out.

It's ok but far from great. Have DVD already and won't upgrade unless dirt cheap

I never saw Zebraman. I wanted to pick up the DVD back when, but never got around to it.

As for Devilman, I may have gotten a Chinese boot back in the day. Never did watch it, though. I should give both of these a spin on Blu.

I know a lot of people didn't enjoy this one, but I actually liked it. I've never watched or read any of the Devilman stories outside of this film.
