Default Help with what cables to buy.

Sorry for these (likely) stupid questions, that I'm sure you've all gotten before.

I am finally getting a Blu Ray player this week. What additional cables do I need to buy?

Now I don't have surround sound yet (and won't for a while), so I don't need any cables for that. I just want the best image/sound from my HDTV.

I appreciate your help!

HDMI is the only way to go if you want the best picture quality available. if your tv accepts HDMI then that's what you need.

There is also absolutely no need to spend an obscene amount of money on a HDMI cable either. Just got to monoprice.com and buy one for $5, does the exact same thing as the $100 monster cables

Well I guess that was part of my question. My TV does have an HDMI connector, so I guess I definitely want one of those. Anything else?

I just got a few of these, and most happy with them. Also have one Monster HDMI cable, I highly recommend going only with Monoprice. http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

Their is no need for the "In wall installation" cables. I bought a couple and they're a pain to bend and flex in the right spots. The regular ones will work just fine, plus they're cheaper!

An HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) cable is what you need. It carries both picture and sound and offers the best quality for both. You also need to get a second one when you get your surround system. I will warn you that a good HDMI cable can be pretty pricey. The Monster brand start around $60.00 and go up to around $120.00 or more. You can also get a Phillips brand at Wal-Mart or Target for around $30.00.

I am confused... We all just recommended Monoprice HDMI cables (without the need to state what HDMI stands for), at the price $5-10 max, now you are recommending Phillips at $30 from Target....... WHHHYYYYYY??????
BTW HD-SDI is better than HDMI, and should have been the interface on common home theater equipment, but wasn't!

Yes, you can pay over-inflated prices for Monster or you can do what just about all of us have already recommended and purchase your cables from Monoprice. The term "good" and "expensive" do NOT go hand-in-hand when talking HDMI cable. There is NO valid reason to pay higher prices for cables <25' long, and even with those most folks have had good success with Monoprice.

Thanks everybody, I was under the assumption that I need a couple cables right now. I will get one of the cheap ones.
