Default vague question

i got a buddy about to jump into hidef with his first lcd. he is of the very cheap nature when it comes to this investment, i have tried to explain the importance of research when it comes to this area as there are so many choices available.

anyways, he "knows a dude" lol who is getting him a great deal on a set. another mutual friend has also got a set from the same person and its a good set, and came at a price that can't be beat. he's buying this tomorrow and couldn't give me the model numbers lol, but says he can get an LG, Olevia, or a SAMSUNG all the same price, and the same size (think he said like 52 or 53). now this seems odd to me lol, but they arn't like stolen either, this is on the legit so i told him without knowing specifics samsung would be a safer bet. anybody wanna chime in on this gem. 3 brands, big size, same price, who's the winner.

I have good experience with the current Sony range, the Samsungs look great, though i don't own one... I hear good things about the LG too, and Phillips are releasing LCDs with 2ms response time, though not sure about the rest of it, but I am sure they are fine.... Look, even a Vizio looks pretty good with a Blu Ray running on it. It seems to be hard to go wrong these days. Just make sure it's 1080x1920 and displays 24p

lol my take as well. not to familiar with the LG's or the olevia (spelled right i don't even know) so i was more curious about those, price and size being equal figured samsung was a safe bet though. i own a sony, and i know most sets out there are gonna impress anyone making the leap into hidef from sdtv but i know in my case i wish i would have gone the xbr route as i normally subscribe to the "in for a dime in for a dollar" thoughts.
