I don't know if this issue has been brought up before, but if it has I apologize.
I have a 60 GB PS3 system. I have been very happy with it until last nite. There is NO sound output. I have tried resetting the PS3, played with every setting (at least i think i have) and no sound! This happens with any media, whether it's a game or a blu-ray movie. I don't even get the clicking noise when i'm in the PS3 system menu. Video looks great though. Any suggestions? The only "out-of-the-ordinary" part of my setup is that i have an HDMI female-female adapter joining 2 HDMI cables. This has never been a problem in the past though. Thanks in advance |

I had a weird problem with my PS3 when I first hooked it up. I got the MGS 4 Bundle and when I started the system up I got sound. When I started the install for the game there was no sound. I was extremely confused. Now before stating the rest of the story, I was using the digital optical cable for audio and this was hooked up to our 5.1 receiver, so I should have gotten 5.1.
So to continue with my story, I was utterly confused why no sound was coming out during the install screen (because I figured there would be sound). I figured ok, maybe it's a fluke and it will come back. The game finished installing and started up and there was still no sound. Anyway, I decided to look at the receiver after doing some messing around and found out the system was set to Pro Logic for some reason and this was causing me to not have sound. So, the moral of my story is, if you are hooked up to a receiver make sure your settings did not get messed up. If that is not the case, use the digital optical out if you can (if you have access to a cable and if you have a system that can use it). Other wise, if you can't do that, take the composite cables that came with the PS3 (painful I know) and press and hold the power "button" on the PS3 until you here a beep, and not the beep when you first start the system up, hold it for a good 5 seconds (that will reset the video settings so you can use the composite). Now the reason for this is because you can then have the sound come out of the RCA cables and see if you are able to get sound. If you are, something could be wrong with your HDMI cable and if you are not, there could be a problem with the PS3. -Shark2k |
