PCM 6.1 and 7.1 on select recievers

I am curious, are there recievers that have HDMI that actually don't support PCM 6.1 and PCM 7.1? I just got the Yamaha HTR-5990 in the mail today, and I cannot get it to detect the 6.1/7.1 PCM audio tracks on Lionsgate titles. I figured since this is a 7.1 reciever with HDMI, I'd be able to do PCM 6.1 and 7.1, am I wrong?

if i'm not mistaken lionsgate titles are at most 6.1 channels. Also I believe your receiver will only do at most 5.1 PCM over HDMI but i think it can do up to 7.1 PCM over analog connections

On the PS3 you can have HDMI audio output at 7.1 PCM

Yes some receivers will can only do 5.1 LPCM even thought they are a 7.1 receiver. I was looking at getting the Onkyo 604/674 until I found it can only do 5.1 LPCM.

A receiver such as the Denon AVR 887/2307CI Can do 6.1/7.1 and it can also source 5.1 LPCM to 7.1

BTW the only BD with true 7.1 LPCM is the Video game Resistance:Fall of Man for PS3.

There was a Japanese Blu-Ray movie that had true 7.1 sound and I can't remember what it was now... But thanks for the help! See I only spent like $500 on this reciever so I figure, once they actually drop the true 7.1 recievers down in price, and make one with THX that's not $8000, then I'll get it. But now I am curious, since the Blu-Ray player outputs 7.1 channels, does that mean I lose the sound from the extra channel in the back? Or is it just matrixed in like Dolby EX and DTS ES 5.1? Normally I'd think it'd be just matrixed in, however on the player it does say the audio is 3/4.1.

Sorry that's not true. Resistance FOM has Dolby Digital only, not PCM.
There are no games using PCM. The PS3 is only spec'd for Dolby Digital in game at the moment.

Ghost in the Shell 2 : Innocence is 7.1 LPCM.
