Default OK, it's time Blu-ray seriously reconsider these garbage Elite cases!

I'm so fed up with broken cases, it's beyond words. I just picked up Firefly on Blu-ray this morning and the damn thing has a broken tab. This is my 6th Blu-ray with some sort of a packaging mishap. I have over 300 DVDs and I had a broken tab in only one of them.

The elite cases are simply CRAP!! There's no way to sugar coat it. Worse are the 3 disc holders. The plastic is so flimsy that I'm afraid to pull the disc out of the case for fear that the tab will snap.

Blu-ray is gaining popularity now. I think it's about time someone took a serious look at this. Yes, you can go back to the store to exchange, etc... But for online orders, this is such a pain!

These are the ones Fox uses? I know when I got Futurama Bender's Game when it came out, the case was almost worthless for holding a disc before I even removed the shrinkwrap. Then I dropped the case accidentally and the entire curved corner of the "binding" snapped right off.

And I got Juno for Christmas... The entire hub for the second disc was DESTROYED but for a little hunk. If not for that little piece still sitting there, the 2nd disc would have been floating around (just digital copy, luckily), but thankfully, the two hubs were close enough inside that when closed, there wasn't enough room for the 2nd disc to get free. Oh, and the first disc was also missing a tab on the hub as well.

How much do bulk orders of GOOD empty cases usually go for? It might well be worth it for me...

I really dislike my disks in a broken amaray, for fear of scratches (I know they're resistant to scratches, but I still get paranoid), and since I started to build a collection, I went ahead and placed them in a Case Logic binder like I would do with all my DVD's. I saved quite a bit of space. If BD amaray's aren't an issue and you don't specifically collect them, then you can try the Case Logic or any other CD wallet / binder route.

Most of my cases are fine, its usually the Sony cases
that are messed up because the clips break on the
side and it sticks out!!

This is a good place to get replacement cases:
http://www.sleevetown.com/blu-ray-hd-dvd-case.shtml
When I started buying BD movies, I ordered a pack of 20, and I use them as my collection grows, either due to damaged case tabs or when the outside of the case is full of glue I can't get rid of. I hate that! Anyway, hope the link helps.

What do you mean by "elite" cases ? Can you post an image of one ?

I have about 20 Blu-rays and have not had any problems with the cases.

I have a fair amount of BD's and have yet to experience any issues with cases. Maybe I'm just lucky!

When I got Batman: Gotham Knight, the top "Blu-ray Disc" thing was scratched on ALL of them! It was also on a few other movies.

i don't have that problem with tab but i hate 3 disc set where they could have put a disc inside where the front part of the case instead of doubling up back to back movies

They are a bit pricey. I ordered a set of five single BD cases and five double BD cases as replacement cases for a couple of titles that arrived with broken cases.

The first instance was an Amazon Marketplace order for Mr & Mrs Smith that arrived all banged up. Seriously it must have taken real talent and thought to have done as much damage to that case, the side was ripped to shreds and the clear plastic cover was also ripped with a huge chunk missing.

The second instance was an Ebay purchase of Get Smart. The holder for the second and third disc was loose inside the case. That was not such a big issue for me, because the damage could have easily happened in transit, so I plan just using a double case for the game and the movie (I could care less about the digital copy).

Another plan I have for a double case is Entrapment. The case it came in is fine but the BD is missing some of the deleted footage and supplemental material that was on the Gold case DVD release. So, I plan on using a double case to hold the DVD and the BD so I have the PQ and AQ of the BD and the supplemental material on the DVD.

I have not had a problem with any of my cases, and I am well over 200 BDs. The DVDs I used to buy would always come in broken cases, the BD cases are for better.

I went the way of Case Logic for my CD collection in the 90's to save space. Over the years the CD's have taken a huge beating due to (1) dust and grime finding its way into the unsealed plastic sleeve and (2) CD's falling out when someone picks up the binder upside-down. In retrospect, I regret using the Case Logic binders for CD's.

IMO, better is the enemy of good-enough when it comes to abandoning the standard BD cases.

Wow... I have the same problem. I just opened the Firefly Blu-ray that I bought yesterday. As soon as I removed the plastic wrap, the case was broken. One of the end of the middle panel is broken along with one of the hooks that closes the case. So now I can't even close the case! gah!

Aynway, here is my question. Are there any 3-disc blu-ray cases floating around out there? I've only found single and double. If not, are there any plans of making them? This is frustrating beyond all belief.

I know what cases you are talking about and these cases have to go the way of the dodo and quick. I have never had a problem with the Disney or Sony cases. Or hey why have the same holders 90% of DVD's have, I think most of you will know what I am talking about, the holders that are in two halves and say press here. But the cases Fox, WB and others use now are jokes.

I don't know about you but I move my favorite Blu Rays around into better cases.

You can buy different cases, but that isn't the point you shouldn't have to.

You state good points as I've used them for CD's to place in my car. I experienced the same problems with the older Case Logics. But nowadays, there are all types of Case Logics including ones that fully close with no little gap opening, the disc media holders themselves are much tighter fitted, and also with movies, as long as you lay them not upside down, all is fine, that is, if you're not mobile with them on a regular basis.

Actually you can do either one. When shrink-wrapped, they come snapped out to where after tearing the shrink you have to pull them to open the actual amaray, then afterwards you have the option to use it as it was packaged or you can push it down while the amaray is open and it clicks in place.
