New Premium PSN Theme's - Blu-ray Forum

In addition to all the free themes you’ve already been getting and will continue to get on the PlayStation Store now, you’ll have the option to upgrade and purchase premium themes to customize the look of your PS3’s XMB.

We have linked up with a few partners, Smobile & Disruptive Media Publishers, to distribute premium themes from PlayStation Network. They have content offerings that range in type from NCAA College licenses to beauties on the beach to original cartoons and anime. These themes were created specifically for the PS3 and have special backgrounds, XMB icons and, in some cases, sounds. We have created a new “Premium Themes” section under Themes & Wallpapers for you to easily access this content. Also, for each theme, there is preview option that allows you to view images of the theme prior to making your decision.

We plan to offer approximately 6-10 new “Premium Themes” a month. So be sure to check back often to browse the newest in premium theme content.

forgot i was gonna post this. good idea for sony i suppose, people are dumb enough to pay for this kind of stuff.

makes me think the free ones, assuming they keep giving us free ones, will be lacking now.

do the backgrounds move around? Or is the default the only one that can do that?

I have tons of themes that are just fantastic (that I've downloaded for free). I don't see myself needing to buy any "premium" themes. Some of the custom created themes people have made are quite amazing.

I'm content as is for now.

Yep, but i guess sony has to make extra money somehow.

People are "dumb" enough to pay for on-line gaming on a gaming console stuff.

So at least they know there is a market.

People said the same thing about demos disappearing and lacking when Qore was released. Didn't happen.

Make your own .. or pick from high quality free ones made by others (because Sony made information freely available) ... or buy themes made by professional artists. Choice is good.

sounds and or moving backgrounds seem to be the main things missing from the non sony theme's, and even the sony themes come to think of it. so depending on if we can preview the theme or not, i suppose i'd buy a penny arcade/ohio state/etc theme.

Moving backgrounds on the right theme might get a purchase from me - otherwise, I doubt there is much that hasn't been done. Either way, no big deal. If Sony wants to offer themes you pay for - that's fine, as long as it remains open for people to create their own.

Man, I need to upgrade my plasma to and LCD... hopefully next year... these images with a lot of black just arent good for burn-in on plasmas. Sure it goes away after a little while if I switch to some moving picture, but it can still be annoying...

I wouldn't go that far, I mean the PSN in general is still free. However I wouldn't pay for a theme. It's not the same as buying an add-on.
