Default My hard to get region B player was stolen : (

I'm a student at UCLA and I had some of my stuff stored with a friend over the summer. This included my UK PS3 which was REALLY hard and expensive to get to the US. I spent a lot of time and money to get it to be able to watch region locked German releases (been trying to learn German).

My friend moved early out of the room and didn't tell me. The next person to move in just moved the stuff into another room without even bothering to close or lock the door. Naturally, within a couple days, it must have been stolen. By the time I finally got back to start the quarter (maybe a week later), no one had a clue about it. I'm so mad and sad. This is a Christian community house, too (another reason for me to dislike the christian faith and all its "morals").

I'm upset at my friend as well as the idiot who didn't give a shit about another person's stuff (it was only a couple small boxes along with the PS3 in its original box).

So, what's the best way to get another UK or European player? I'm going for budget this time. I won't be able to get it for probably a year (don't have money) but maybe I can just think about it. Hopefully it'll make me feel better.

I'm just so angry. I've been so excited to get Sleeping Beauty in German but it seems like Disney has that catalogue title region locked. Ahhh!!!!!

At the end of the day, it's still an electronic and can be replaced with money. I guess when I think about that, I feel just a little better.

The cheapest "region free" player on "bluraymods" is going for over $750USD. Crazy. Probably a silly question, but is there any way to make a US PS3 region free for blu ray?

sorry to hear that, that really blows... check ebay sales from your area recently. There can't be that many floating around.. If the seller didn't know it was a Region B player, they'll be pissed when it doesn't work and leave negative feedback..

just a thought, and best of luck

I'm looking all over Ebay and I can't find one region B or free player (well region free for the DVD but thats not what I want). I think over 99% of the American Blu Ray population doesn't even know or care about media outside of their region.

Sigh.

the person who would sell it might not know it's a region B player..they might be selling as a US PS3.

sucks no matter what though.

hmm that is disappointing, more than likely you know the culprit, i would say 90% that it was either your friend or the new person that moved into your room that liberated the ps3. haha some people probably won't like this comment, but unfortunately the type of people often times targeted for recruition into christian faith are those that have had troubled pasts, they promise redemption for all the bad things they did just by mearly believing that jesus will save them, this is rather appealing to that crowd, a kind of get out of hell for free no matter what card, but then unfortunately saved or not a lot of these people return to their old ways, or are unable to change, putting the good ones at risk.

try checking craigslist too. also you might want to check if there is some kind of homeowners insurance on the house, maybe you can file a claim, or maybe even your church would be nice enough to reimburse u. u never know.

Default Looking forward

I know it sounds hard, but try to forget the past and look forward . I did a search on eBay for you and found the following PS3's (per today) that are sold in Germany (so region B), but who are willing to ship worldwide. Here we go.

3 Used 40GB:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Playstation-3-PS...QQcmdZViewItem

http://cgi.ebay.com/Sony-Playstation...QQcmdZViewItem

http://cgi.ebay.com/PS3-Konsole-40-G...QQcmdZViewItem

1 New 40GB:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Sony-Playstation...QQcmdZViewItem

2 Used 60GB:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Sony-Playstation...QQcmdZViewItem

http://cgi.ebay.com/Sony-PlayStation...QQcmdZViewItem

Good luck!

Thank you for doing that search for me. It is kind of you. I am assuming that you are Dutch? It's so strange to see another language so similar to German yet I won't be able to understand any of it.

Wow, the new 40gb and used 60gb are so expensive. Running nearly $600USD.

Sorry to hear about. That is horrible. There is another, less expensive route you could go: The LG BH200. Works fine. Hope this helps and good luck.

Is that a good player? I thought the LG combo ones were poor?

I would carefully read the thread and see if it sounds good for you. It isn't a bad player, has its bugs like other players.

Oops, sorry, I just edited the links to the English (.com) version for you.

By the way, if it doesn't need to be a PS3, but any Blu-ray player would be OK for you, then you could: 1. indeed go 'the LG 200 route' like mentioned above, 2. buy one of the two already modified Blu-ray players from www.BlurayMods.com or one of their distributors, or 3. buy a mod-kit from them and D.I.Y. (which I wouldn't recommend).

damn!!! that blows!! There has been some news about ps3's firmware having been successfully hacked by some hardcore hacker. So! If I were you I would wait patiently for a future custom firmware to make ps3's region free.

just a thought then again it all depends in how long are you willing to wait.

So, what do you guys think is my best option at the moment? Nothing available for the PS3 that allows the BD region to be changed?
