Trying to decide which to purchase. I am looking at the Pioneer Elite SC-07 or the Onkyo TX-NR906. Both seem to be pretty good and both about the same price. I have also seen the new Yamaha RX-Z7. I can get the RX-Z11 for about $2800 from a local authorized dealer. Any help would be appreciated. I have heard the SC-05 and the Yamaha but not the Onkyo.

I am using Def Tech BP7002's, CLR 2300, BPZ/A (2), and UIW 94/A (2) for 7.1. Pioneer Elite BDP-05 BR player.

Hmm well you have very nice stuff, so you can't go wrong with either. But the Onkyo 906 is one hell of a unit for the price and all the features it has. I prefer Onkyo though, they just have a nice warm feeling to them, and are definitely geared towards multichannel movie watching. I'd go with the Onkyo 906, but thats just me haha. I even returned a Yamaha RX-V1800 and decided to stay with the Onkyo. I just felt like it was a more solid unit (just my opinion though)

![]() As far as setup goes its extremely easy, just plug in your devices and speakers and start the Audyssey calibration. And thats it! You cant go wrong with this unit. |

Just got 906 today and got it hooked up. All I can say is awesome unit. But, don't be fooled it does get quite warm if not "hot" Set up is just about as easy as I have ever encountered. Sound quality is 1st rate. It has more bottom end than AVR-4308 but I do think the 4308ci may have a better overall audio. 906 better video. For the money I do believe I would choose the 906 if you have plenty of space for this thing to breath. I do have it in a cabinet but it is fan cooled.

Damn dude - a new RX-Z11 for $2800 would have been the shiznit!!!
PCM1792 DAC's, DSD>Analog conversion, 11.2 array, really fantastic piece of equipment well worth its $5,000 price tag. It's equivalent would have been the 5308CI and Onkyo don't make a receiver at that level currently. |
