Default 3 CH Audio?

I just bought a Yamaha RX-V663. Does anyone know how to get 3 CH audio from tv? I was watching baseball last night and it was working perfectly but now it is not. I only see options for 2ch stereo and 7ch.

Maybe cable doesn't play 3 ch. During the baseball playoffs last night the center channel was carrying the dialogue and the sides were playing the surround. Today it won't do it. What would be the best setting for a L/R/C setup? It seems as if my only options are 2 or 7.1.

Unrelated to the audio, but... Before I got the receiver I was running component from the box to the tv. Now I have hdmi from the box-receiver-tv. Maybe its just me but it looks like the PQ dropped just a bit. Should that happen?

different inputs will look different. You need to calibrate for each. So yes, the PQ could look bad...until you adjust it.

as for the sound, did you change any settings on the receiver such as listening mode? (I would not use "stereo"...try PrologicIIx) Does your cable box output Dolby, PCM or both?

I think it may be the channel you were watching, if I am watching a station that doesn't broadcast dolby 5.1 then I will get exactly what you are describing which shows up as PCM, and i will get L/C/R with Sub, but I will usually use one of my settings that lets me use the back speakers as virtual speakers and outputs the same sounds and the Front L&R. so I somewhat get surround

I have a new problem. I've had the receiver for 2 weeks and everything has been going great. Yesterday my wife was watching tv and the screen starts flashing faster and faster then goes blank. At the same time she said "a bunch of lights" on the receiver started flashing. I am out of town so I had her connect the HDMI directly from the cable box to the tv and everything is working as it should. Has anyone else had this problem? I guess I'll just have to send it back since the store has a 30 day return policy.
