Default hdmi receivers

hey guys, im a rookie when it comes to this receiver set up stuff but i was just wondering if someone could explain something to me. right now i have my ps3(which i use as a blu-ray player only) connected straight into my tv through a hdmi connection, i was wondering if i get an audio receiver(not a top notch one but a decent one around $500) and put that into my hdmi slot and then put my ps3 into the audio receiver through a hdmi connection, will it diminish the picture quality at all or will it stay the exact same ? thanks for any replies.

It will stay the same, have a look at the Sony STR-DG920. Get HDMI cables from www.monoprice.com

Most HDMI receivers have the option to pass through without altering the video signal at all.

Have a look at the Onkyo 606, currently about $330. It has 4 HDMI inputs, and can upscale all of your analog inputs to 1080i. It's got a beefy power supply, and supports the HD audio codecs, which will come in handy if you ever upgrade to a blu-ray player that can bitstream them. If you think you might want to use separate amps one day, look at the Onkyo 705 & 805. You MIGHT be able to find the 805 for close to $500.

Whenever these Onkyo's go in stock...606 or 805. The Sony 920 is also a good choice but if possible, go for the Onkyo 805.
