Default PS3 should start using it's audio superiority to it's advantage!

All PS3 games have 5.1 Dolby Digital but we were able to get that codec in the last generation of consoles, one of the Grand Theft Auto: Vice City for the PS2 had DTS 5.1 soundtrack on it. With the PS3 being so sophisticated and it using Blu Ray disks that have a lot of space why not create in game audio using PCM, Dolby True HD, or DTS MA. Audio is one of the areas the PS3 absolutely leaves the 360 in the dust, and you know what they say, if you've got it flaunt it. So we should start flaunting are audio superiority. Why not? I bet most people who have a PS3 have it hooked up to home theater systems anyway. Why should next gen audio be for movies only?

Some games have PCM but its a good idea to try to have all games with HD audio

a lot of the high profile ps3 exclusives (uncharted, resistance, lair, heavenly sword, mgs4, etc.) have 5.1 or 7.1 HD audio...the cross platform titles are the ones that get "jipped" in the audio dept.

Resistance, Uncharted, Warhawk, Lair, Folklore, Ratchet n Clank, Motorstorm (i think) Heavenly Sword, all have 7.1 PCM. Also, they are all exclusives.

As WriteSimply explained, the PS3 mixes the audio real-time, thats why PCM i possible, since no compression is needed.

TrueHD or DTS-MA would never happen because it would take WAY too much processing power for the PS3 to encode tha in real-time.

Lossless audio just won't be seen on cross-platform titles. There is not enough space on the dvds that the Xbox 360 uses. Blu-ray for the win...

Too much processing power and... too much time. Even Dolby Digital isn't fast enough -- that's why they created Dolby Digital Live: optimized for low latency, primarily for use with games.
