Just thought I'd get an idea on the average number of speakers folks are running on their H/T setups....
My own 140" CIH, non-AT screen front pj setup consists of a 16-speaker configuration: Front L&R : 4 (2 above screen & 2 below) Center: 2 (1 above screen & 1 below) -- I've always found dialog volume levels lacking, especially when the other channels are active -- my 2-speaker solution remedies this) Side surround: 2 Rear Surround: 2 Subwoofers: 6 (1 in each front corner for more even coverage / 1 exclusively for center channel dialog -- I've always found most home center channel speakers incapable of reproducing the deep, robust quality of commercial theater dialog -- my sub solution addresses this) / 1 for augmenting rear channel efx / 2 Buttkicker 'Silent Subwoofers'. Ideally, I prefer my H/T's audio to be as immersive as the image. Last edited by ambientcafe; 09-15-2008 at 09:01 AM. |

7.1 surround (Wide front configuration)
Center(1) Front-Floorstanding towers (2) High Front Wide- Satellites(2) High Rear Sats (2) Down firing 12" Sub front left corner Would prefer a more standard 7.1 setup, but my current room is too small for it. |

I'm currently running a 5.1 setup with serious eyeballs on upgrading to 7.1! I'm having trouble with the placement of the extra two speakers though. I have to give that some more serious thought before I plunge another $600 for two more satellites.

Same with me. have to figure out placement and where to run wires. It's a pain for me having a fairly large room. I have my rears running through a Rocketfish so I didn't have to run a lot of wire. I'll have to rethink if I go to 7.1

I had my home theater room built with a 6.1 channel setup. I felt 7.1 would be a bit of overkill, but I thought having a back surround channel in a 6.1 setup would add a much needed dimension in the surround channels. My setup consists of:
- Aura LST-628M tower speakers for the left and right channels - Aura LSC-537M center channel - Aura LSB-527M monitors for the left and right surround channels - Aura LSC-537M back surround channel - M&K V-125 subwoofer |

well do you mean individual speakers or speaker boxes. individually I have 25. 27 if the HDTV counts (ha ha ha) I think you mean speaker boxes in witch I have 11. all but 2 are YAMAHA 1 center NS-200 3 speakers in it, 2 F-R/L NS-777 towers 4 speakers in each, 2 SS R/L NS-A638 3 speakers in each, 2 SB R/L NS-A328 2 speakers in each, 2 YST-SW45 subwoofers 70W each on the speaker wire for the SS R/L, and 2 infinity PS-12 300W up front (got'em cheap) for the .2 from the 7.2 YAMAHA 663. I love my setup.

I have a 5.1 set-up right now, which sounds amazing! I am considering upgrading to 7.1 sometime in the future, but I have a question...
Right now, if I play a movie mastered with 7.1 audio on my 5.1 system, will I miss any audio? I'm hoping my Onkyo 805 will realize I only have 5.1 speakers and double the surrounds as rears. Is that correct? ![]() |

Axiom was concerned that I may run into issues with the 4 Ohm M80's and my Yamaha RX-V3800 receiver so they suggested that I get the M60's instead. The M60's are amazing speakers and I have talked to folks that have tried both and they are supposedly very close in sound. Zak |

I meant individual speaker boxes/cabinets....BTW, sounds like you've got a great setup 'MustangGT'....I'm also using the Yammy 663 (great AVR, for the price -- wish it'd have a couple more HDMI inputs though)....I'm guessing that you've got a fairly elaborate sound (and video) system in your Stang also.
